H8 LEDs for fogs - error code??

After searching, I can't find a straight answer to my question. Do the "plug-n-play" H8 LED fog light replacements throw an error code? Does the B8.5 even have a bulb out warning for the front fogs?

plug and play just means no modification necessary to fit.

you need LEDS that has the canbus feature, which will code out the error in the dash

This, however, not all bulbs that claim to be canbus error free are actually canbus error free. The only way to know for sure is to try them. When I contacted OPT-7 about their LED fogs being canbus error free, they did say it would not cause errors. I'm still stand-offish though, because I've been told by other vendors that their stuff doesn't cause errors, only to discover that they do.

Okay, I wasn't even sure if we could get an error for the fog lights. But now that I know, I'll have to ask before I buy if they are error-free replacements. If I buy something that does give an error, is there some sort of plug-in module that will get rid of the error?

I think they do but I wouldn't. many LEDS are diff sized so the universal canbus might not giv you enough room in the housing, etc.

see if you can find one that is guaranteed 100% canbus

At the very least, find a vendor with a good return policy, or buy them on Amazon since it's super easy to return things on Amazon.

I'm going to try out the OPT-7 LED fogs eventually, but I need to replace an oxygen sensor and upgrade to a wideband on the Evo first. Stock sensors are having a hard time handling the high boost

i threw these in my 2014 a5 about 2 weeks ago. so far no error codes. these are purely for cosmetic purpose. the light output is worse than the stock bulbs.

My caution about OPT-7 is that their colour temps are WAY off. I went through a few sets before I got lights that were either matching each other or the colour temps was close to what they advertised.

The one good thing about them is that they will replace the set, no questions asked, once you send them pictures of the mis-match bulbs and/or the completely wrong colour.

Just an update.... beware of buying any bulbs from Xenon Depot. They're not a company I would deal with again because of deceptive business practices. They sent me an item that was never delivered due to some international paperwork error (they're in Canada) and then when UPS sent the package back to them, they only refunded me slightly less than 50% of what I paid originally. After unsuccessfully trying to get my full purchase price refunded, I just ended up disputing the transaction with my credit card company. Xenon Depot, never again...

I didn't have any color temp issues with my OPT-7's. I've had a few friends that also purchased OPT-7 and didn't have issues, so maybe you just got a pair that shouldn't have passed through quality control? Their reps are super helpful, and it's nice they got you all taken care of without causing too much of a bother.

Unfortunately, it was more than 1 pair. First pair were supposed to be yellow but were almost green. Second pair, the 2 bulbs were different colours.

Regardless, other than the hassle of changing them, the customer service was great.
