    TTS vs TT RS

Hi, TT people. I've been waiting on a RS3 since April and went and test drove an S3 and a TTS last week and have been TT obsessed since. I've all but nixed the RS3 at this point because I just really like the look and feel of the TT platform more than the A3 platform. In about an hour I'm going to look at a Daytona / Express Red TTS with my wife, and there's a really really good chance I'll be taking it home in the next day or so. The True Car pricing is really nice at $57,400 and my wife really likes that over the RS3's $61k MSRP no negotiation. Here's the monkey wrench: I found a Mythos black TT RS available at another local dealer set to arrive between 8/4 and 8/12. The problem I'm having with saying yes to the TTS vs the RS3 is... well, RS. That 5 cylinder. The wife doesn't want me to spend the $74k on the TT RS, a $17k premium over the TTS for just ~100 hp/tqplus. I like Daytona more than Mythos so there's that too.

My question, TT people, is do any of you 2017 TTS owners regret not waiting for the TT RS? Would you choose an RS3 over over a TTS?

FYI, I'm going to cross post this in the 8v forum as well.

    Thanks!

I don't know. I've had this car over a year (2016). Probably wouldn't have the TTRS until at least a few months from now still. Have been able to enjoy this one for a while.

In that time I've tracked it a few times. Of course these posts about others receiving their TTRS' make me jelly =). Will probably be trading this in for an R8 within a year. Not cause I don't like it though.

Biggest gripe might be the transmission. Oh and the brakes but I fixed that.

I've only had my TTS for a month but I definitely love it. $380 JB1 brings it fairly close to the RS for power. I have no issue with the brakes or transmission. It's a bit too aggressive in dynamic but is great in auto. I keep the drive select in individual for the best settings. If money weren't an issue I would probably have the TTRS but it's a 16-18k price gap with discounts on the S taken into account. Have to decide if the engine is worth that much.

For the RS3, I thought the interior was pretty cheap and doesn't compare to the TTS, also not as good looking. I wanted to lease in case I want a new car in a few years and the RS leases aren't practical. Otherwise it's a close call for me but I'm happy with my choice.

The transmission just doesn't seem as good as my S4 in my opinion. The JB4 helps bridge the gap power wise and a downpipe would help a lot as well. Out of the box power and sound of the 5 cylinder is nice and if you're willing to tune it... =)

no regrets. i love the full red interior, which the ttrs does not have. i also love that the tts has better stock wheels.

u can easily make a tts as fast as a stock ttrs, but of course once u tune the ttrs, its a diff monster

at the end of the day, i think its mostly about budget. if u can swing a ttrs, i say do it. if not, u wont be disappointed with a tts.

tough call though on the rs3 vs tts being same price. i had that thought as well, but ultimately did NOT like the rs3 body. i am personally more of a looks person vs performance, tts hands down look better than any of the 3 IMO so i wouldnt consider the rs3

just took this snap of my TT today. i LOVE the way it looks. and the ttrs would look even more amazing

Yeah the S4 DSG was smoother but sounds like the dogbone mount makes a drastic improvement. I'll find out soon.

    TTS vs TT RS

I don't drive my TTS enough as is (work from home), but when I do it's bliss. TTRS would be more so, I'm sure, but I negotiated 10% off MSRP and will use the 20k I saved to do other things. I'll JB4 in the future.

Just want to say thank you to everyone who replied here, I really appreciate it. The decision has been made and I am in an Uber right now on my way to pick up my new TTS!

The decision ultimately came down to four criteria:

    2 doors
    Audi
    Daytona Gray
    Price

It was hard giving up the RS3, but I really want two doors.
I absolutely and without question had to have an Audi.
I've decided that Daytona Gray is my favorite Audi color.
And lastly I just couldn't justify the extra nearly $20k for the TTRS, as much as I really wanted to. The money I'm saving will go to track days, track mods and tires.

So there you have it. I'll post pictures tonight, but today I'm going for a long drive!

Having driven a MK2 TTS and TT-RS, you won't regret it.

I was on the same boat.

Had a 14 S4 with that beast of a DSG twin clutch.

It was so hard adapting to that shit TTS transmission but everything else about the TTS beats the S4.

I was also deciding on the RS but the price was just too much for me.

You did good with the TTS

Looks good! There is just something about 4wd in a nimble platform that still uses a modest 4-cylinder so you don't feel guilty driving it as much as possible.
