    TT-RS steering wheel...will it fit?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm thinking about picking up a TT-RS steering wheel to replace my OEM one. Can anyone confirm that it would be a direct plug-n-play scenario?

I want to make sure it will mount up fine with no adapters and that all steering wheel controls will function correctly.

Did the same mod for my car. absolutely love it! I required some modification for my airbag harness as it was being used in a B8 S4 before. But yes all buttons work.

Is the TTRS wheel a smaller diameter like the euro flat bottom? It looks like it's a similar diameter to the US oem wheel to me. Or is that just an optical delusion

    I know, right!?

I've heard nothing but good things about their work. Have them throw in a 12 o'clock ring in their while they're at it.

It's done! Steering wheel should be sent out by next week. Pretty excited about it!

Question - how hard is it to change the badge on the bottom of the steering wheel? I'm not sure I'll care too much since it'll at least say "RS" on it, but if isn't too difficult or expensive, I may do it.

Where did you get yours from?

Is it weird I like the solid leather on the top and bottom of the S wheel more than the air leather in the same locations of the RS wheel?

Just installed tonight. Looks and feels great and compliments well with 2010+ RNS-E(it should since they're both out of a TTRS)

    (little things in life)
Switched to Tesla and have never been happier. No more shady mechanic bills and excuses - oil top off before an oil change is normal or dealing with outdated forums that have image size limitations. And no more dealing with vendors that do not provide horsepower numbers but sell you random things by labeling them as performance parts. No more dealing with the Audi dealership and having to buy custom Audi specific tools. Wow. I can't believe I lived through all of this. Money pit.

It's pretty easy. You just need plastic trim tools.

Yeah it's not hard at all. Use a plastic trim tool and pry it out. However, those badges are stupid expensive for what they are. Last I checked the RS badge was between $120-140 IIRC

So my car is at Excelerate getting the wheel installed along with a few other things. They just called me saying the connector for the airbag is different from the one in the car, not good.

I thought this whole setup was supposed to be plug n play, am I wrong? If it isn't, what adapter do I need to have the airbag fit?

I found these two threads which I believe outlines what needs to get repinned/trimmed on the TT-RS airbag to have it work on the RS4 - can anyone confirm this is correct?

I would really appreciate some help here as I'm currently driving with no airbag, horn, or steering wheel controls.

Where did you buy it from? Or more specifically, did the wheel/airbag/harness come from a TTRS, or another RS4 owner that already had a modified airbag harness? Many of us bought our wheels plug-n-play from Europrice to avoid what you're dealing with now. As long as you've got your original RS4 airbag harness, the TTRS airbag harness, and you've got a good de-pinning tool/set, Re-pinning the airbag harness isn't difficult..swapping connectors is straight-forward as well.

The wheel/airbag setup is brand new and for a TT-RS, bought from a member on Audizine. I was told by the seller it was plug-n-play as is from the factory, so I had no idea there was additional modifications needed.

Based on the threads I found, it looks like I can use the harness from the TT-RS airbag once it is repinned and the tabs are trimmed? Or do I need to reuse the harness from my RS4 airbag?

    FYI - part number of airbag is 8J0 880 201 N 6PS.

Quick update - dropped the car off with my guy at Audioworks in Milford, CT. He was able to repin the harness for me and install a revised interface to allow me to use the steering wheel controls with my Pioneer HU.

Everything now functions: horn, airbag, and steering wheel controls. Definitely a worthwhile mod - love it!

The trim piece pops out from the back of the silver trim, which can only be done when the wheel is off the car. Here's my RS6 wheel from 2009 (still running it). I'm running a blank piece now.

physically yes, but the TT-RS airbag is dual stage, whereas the B6 uses a single-stage setup, and there's no single stage airbag that fits the TT-RS wheel. While some people have wired dual stage airbags to fire together as a single stage, there's no proof that this is safe or effective, and is generally discouraged.

That said, I had a TT-RS wheel/airbag on my B6 A4, wired both stages together, and the airbag did deploy when I was in a front-end collision. But it was relatively low-speed and so I can't say if the inflation was correct to protect me in a more serious accident.

Bumping an old thread here. These wheels are getting easier to find but often without airbags.

Does anyone have a P/N for the correct airbag to use in a B7 with this TTRS wheel? Or know specifically what cars they came in?

I used airbag Part No. 8J0 880 201 N 6PS with my TT-RS wheel and it had the silver ring on the cover instead of black.

Hey, does anybody know what part number I would need for the RS4 badge that would fit a TTRS steering wheel? It looks like a b8 one would fit but I'm not sure.
