    Throttle body gasket replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello!

I ran a boost leak test and found my throttle body gasket is leaking heavy.

I ordered the gasket and replacement bolts which I should have on Friday.

My question is this a straight forward gasket change? Do I need any type of gasket sealer besides the gasket itself? Is there any special install instructions I should know about?

Besides all the bolts being stripped already I'm hoping there isn't much more to the change.

    Thanks!

you may also want to do an alignment with vcds once your done and its cleaned.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Be careful tightening them up. The threads in the mani are soft and can pull out.
Most of the time bolts that size would be 10nm (90inlb), but that is right at the point the threads pull out of the mani so go a little easier on them.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Thank Blitz I read about that and will add that to the list.

And thanks Zillarob, that is a very important note to make on this job. I'll make sure to be gentle. Hopefully they won't already be stripped inside considering the heads are toast.

Those bolts holding the TB on can be pretty stuck if they've never been removed, just be very careful trying to crack them free.

    Parts arrived. Finally.

Made a discovery when I pulled the stripped throttle body bolts out.

The bolts used that I removed are longer than the bolts I picked up at Audi.

After some measurements and a test installation it's no wonder that throttle body was leaking all this time.
