Updated and detailed rear tail light coding table (with pictures)

I spent several hours tonight farting around with tail light coding options, after having very successful results on my previous A4 Avant. I found a semi-complete table on AW, but its custom column wasn't correct, so I went through and made everything correct. I also added binary codes to hopefully figure out what options are being turned on/off with the decimal codings.

Not pictured are the side markers lights. The are off by default, and will flash in unison with the turn signal only. Pretty cool IMO.

I tried finding an old post on AZ first before I made a new post, I knew this wasn't brand new info. But I wasn't happy with that coding table and my car's PO did some weird stuff, so it was nice to find stock info and start fresh.

Good to know this does not apply to the facelift model, hopefully you find stock values to go back.

Yes, stock lights. You will need VCDS or something like it. Go to Module 46 (Central Conv) > Enter the security code provided > Adaptations > start at channel 195, taking note of your original stock setting in case it differs from the chart. Hit test with each change, then save before moving onto the next channel. Takes just a few minutes to do.

I wasn't holding my breath for the 7.5 Hopefully someone decodes it at a later time.

On a side note, too bad that none of the coding units, (Carista, VCDS offers a "back to stock" feature.)

I've been trying to develop a working IDE SSD replacement for our MMI too, and I am tantalizing close. Everything but Google Earth works so far. I am getting an MMI update in September, I am hoping that provides the fix I need.

Interestingly, I have tried a variety of "standard grade" HDDs with complete success, so there is something about the SSDs that is just a tick off from regular HDDs.

I take a picture of the VCDS screen every time I make a change showing the original value and the new value. Great to have a picture of what it was.

I actually wrote a manual for my A7 with instructions and pictures just in case I forgot years down the road. Came in handy when I needed to put everything back to stock for the trade in.

Write down your original settings, try mine, see what happens? Worst case you have to go back to what you had. As long as you have your stock settings, this is a very safe mod to try and do.

You have to hit save with each change to each channel, otherwise it goes back. Double check 195-210 that everything went back.

I'll double check and make sure I hit save .. as long everything works without fogs on is really only my concern.
Looks pretty cool if I can get the brake inner light to illuminate while braking with fogs and keep the outters as turns. I'll keep playing around with it and maybe if I can have that setup then I'll keep it.

It would still be nice if we can get 7.5 coding table for EU and USA.

OBDEleven has a history tab that notes all coding changes made to each control unit. It is not the most user friendly of interfaces but helped me out once already. You can also backup each control unit i.e. It will read all adaption channels and coding and store the data in a backup file. I haven't tried this yet, but I do see it as a feature.

However, I agree, a "back to stock" feature would be great, especially if combined with a feature that would allow you to easily restore your modified settings.

Yeah, the PO of my car made several changes to modules that I wish had been put back to factory original. At least I'm advanced enough to know what I'm doing and how I want my car configured.

Never mind, got them to work.. messing with the tails lights threw a fault code I didn't clear.. all good

Had the fogs coded as turns too which was pretty cool. Brakes didn't activate fogs but turns activated and flash with the signal lol

When i do the europe coding as per the table, i can only get the inner turn signal to flash, the outer taillight does not go as do the europe audis. Any clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you for sharing the results of your work!

I recreated your table with formulas to convert binary to decimal and notice that the bottom values listed for Germany don't match between decimal and binary.

The binary values for 12 and 44 should be:
12 00001100
44 00101100

The binary values given would correspond to the USA values:
51219 1100100000010011
51251 1100100000110011

Not sure which was accurate. :)

I changed the "Turn Signal + Brake" settings to match the Germany settings and like that. I will have to do some more testing.

I did the coding on my lights today. I went a little different route with the combination of German and US coding. I still wanted the full light ring when braking because imo, your brake lights can never be too bright with how people are distracted these days. I'm very happy with the results.

I did the coding on my lights today. I went a little different route with the combination of German and US coding. I still wanted the full light ring when braking because imo, your brake lights can never be too bright with how people are distracted these days. I'm very happy with the results.
