Help, lost keys to my roof racks.... Exhausted all options i know of

    Hey guys,

I have a set of room racks for my B8 A4 but don't have the keys. I managed to pop the covers twisting the devis with a set of needle nose players but obviously don't want to install without getting a set of keys.

I looked for the lock code on the face of the lock itself but there is nothing there.

I called Thule but they were no help.

I called my local Audi dealer and they were no help.

I hit up Audi USA vie the online chat function and they were no help.

I called a local locksmith. Most hung up on me or told me they couldn't help lol.

Anyone have any alternative ideas? I was thinking of buying a used set of Q5 racks off craigslist since there are millions of sets and then switching out the locks on mine with the ones on them. Anyone tried this or know the process of doing so???

    Any help is appreciated.

Rocs I had the same problem,I bought some lock picks from Amazon and got off the locks in literally 5 minutes. Here is a Youtube link to show you how to do it.The roof rack locks are so easy to pick.I bought a used roof rack but the owner lost the keys so I watched the video and bam got it off.

    @Ducati Thanks man!

Mind linking me to the locks you purchased? Just want to ensure i get the correct ones for the Audi OEM roof racks. BTW, do i have to buy a lock picking set? Is that what you did?

Buy the lock picking tools, its like $12us on Ebay but it takes too long so Amazon is faster. You can get the cylinder code and order another set of keys or just install a new lock set.I can pick almost any roof rack locks now..LOL..I can do it on the Audi,Thule and Rockymounts they are all basic pins locks.Since your in the US why not ECS.?

    Buying this now from ECS.

My locks don't have the Lock code on them. Would they be anywhere else on the locks or racks?

    Really appreciate your help.

Yes there should be a digit code on the cylinder. There is something called a master key that allows you to remove the cylinder but use the lock picks to remove it.Then install the new cylinders. You be surprise how easy it is to pick the locks from Thule,Yakima,Audi and Rockymounts.Ebay is the cheapest to buy the picks but takes for ever coming from China.I bought my off Amazon.

If picking fails you can also drill the locks out. Destroys them, but is fast and works great.

So i bought some Thule replacement locks off eBay and the cylinders are to big to fit the openings of the original locks.

Getting frustrated with these roof racks at this point. I can't seem to find any that "look" to be the same size as the OEM locks on the OEM audi roof racks.

Anyone have any ideas? I went back to the ECS website and checked to ensure these fit my vehicle and the online tool says they DO NOT.

Drop in to a Rack shop and have them test fit some. These shops usually carry all the major brands.

I know this post is a couple years dead but hoping to hear where you landed on this? I'm in a similar situation. I bought a used audi roof rack for an A7 but it has no keys and no markings on the outside of the cylinder. There is a stamp on the cylinder (when removed) but looks more like a part number PA6-30GF. Rack mounts aren't attached to the car. I'm goign to take them into the local rack shop and see if one of their Thule keys work this weekend.

I am talking about the key for the lock. I bought the rack used but they didn't have the keys.

Since you can remove it, take it to a lock smith. SB easy peasy to figure out the height of each tumbler now.

Reviving from the dead - but looks like the only key code I can find available is FH079.
Same situation for me - no keys with my 2nd hand racks, and no code to be found.

Could it be they're all 079??

Audi Rack should be same key for all 4 locks.

Sorry - NONE of my locks have a code stamped.
And the only code I can find googling is FH079.

So could it be that all roof bars (not just mine) have the same lock?

Don't waste your time. the fastest/easiest option is to take one lock or lock cylinder to your local locksmith. they can cut a new key by feel. it cost me like $30 for 2 keys or something. Give them a call, they can tell you what a simple double sided key costs.

The key isn't needed to secure the rack to the roof so if you're feeling cheap you could just drill it out.

The dealer didn't have the keys to my CPO Audi Roof Rack.

If you're in OC, California take it to Hill's Bros Lock & Safe, 9177 Garden Grove Blvd, Garden Grove, CA 92844.

They charged ~$40 for 1 double sided key.

Just a heads up ... a ran into a similar issue with my roof rack on my S3 where the lock cylinders have no numbers listed

But on the underside of the rack is an OEM sticker and this sticker lists a four or five digit number (use a mirror or take a pic with your phone if the racks are installed)

The dealer said they didn't know what this was for .... but

Luckily I found my keys ... and the last three numbers matched my keys!
