They are held on by clips. Have a look from the back side...just have to bend one, I think.

Depress clips use a rubber mallet from behind the top to move it off of the exhaust. Just removed mine yesterday and swapped to.the black dc sport tips shown here.

I have 23K on my car and my tips look like new. When I clean the car I clean the tips. For stubborn black exhaust soot I use car wax and it comes right off.

Too late for OP, I think, but I wipe mine with a dry towel every time I drive. Call me what you like, but they still look spankin new.

0000 steel wool, wd40 cleans everything in 30 seconds. Polish with some metal polish. So damn easy. It will change your life. Try it.

Have you tried P21S polishing soap? That always does the trick for me

I bought mine used and the previous owner didn't care to keep them in good shape. They had heavy carbon deposits and I'm guessing from a lack of cleaning eventually started pitting a little bit. I tried cleaning normally, then wax, then polish, then abrasive polish, then metal polish, then a scouring pad and then steel wool. The steel wool was the only thing that removed *most* of the carbon build up, but also revealed the pitting in the tips. I've accepted the fact that I'm just going to have to buy new ones.

Open flaps mod is your friend.. (Besides the questionable lower end reduced torque issue), they help dispense the carbon evenly on all 4 pipes rather than just the inner two, making it much easier to deal with, weekly wipe with basso will take care of it. Steel wool, although works great, but it will also scratch/dulling the chrome...

I used Bar Keepers Friend. Can be found at any hardware store. Give it a LIGHT buff and it'll come right off.

Adams metal polish #1 with a microfiber towel got stubborn soot off for me. Best to wipe them off often though. I use an all purpose cleaner (apc) and mf towel every few drives.

Thanks so much for this recommendation. Ordered a can from Amazon and finally had the opportunity to us it today. Have been using the typical chrome cleaner from the local Autozone and it typically took me two to three applications before the carbon built-up was mostly gone. However, with the P21S it took a light rubbing and the exhaust tips are now cleaner than ever before.

This forum has been fantastic and I really appreciate all the good information everyone is sharing.

Tried to keep my S3 tips clean but apparently didn't attack them often enough. Read the thread http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-stock-Catback and have decided to go with the posters useful suggestion. Ordered 3 stainless Magnaflow tips and will have them installed next week. Will drop my muffler assembly and my neighbor will do the cutting and welding for me. Neighbor works for Mike Shank Racing (Acura NSX factory team in GTD) and will have access to the shop. Really great to have neighbors like that!! I really like the look of the double walled stainless Magnaflow tips and will be easier to keep them clean. I recently used Mother's metal polish on the current oval tips but still can't get all the carbon off. Chrome plating is pitted in spots too. My S3 has 23K miles.
