Hi all,
So I own a 2010 Audi A5 with the 2.0T engine and the TIP transmission, I purchased the car at about 68k miles and now it's around 83k. The car had been great for majority of my ownership until as of recently the turbo has been making strange noises. I've read multiple posts on various websites about a similar issue but no one posted any solution or diagnostics. I had brought the car to the dealership and explained to them the issue; the car when boosting doesn't create a smooth turbo spool up like you'd normally hear in a forced induction vehicle, yet instead the air sounds like it rushes in, the car takes a pause as if taking a breath (not sure how else to describe it aside from that) and then more air into the turbo followed by the very sharp, choppy whistle. On top of that, the tachometer flutters around certain RPM's whenever the air sounds like it's taking a pause, the tach will drop slightly and then continue to increase. Which I know should not be the case. The dealership couldn't help me diagnose the problem and said that it was normal for these cars to be experiencing these issues, but I have a warranty on the car so if it was a faulty turbo or if the bearings have become loose, then I don't understand why it wouldn't be fixed? The car isn't throwing a CEL for this issue, and I have yet to replace the DV from the stock diaphragm style. I ordered the Revision D DV but after doing more research, it doesn't seem like that'll solve this issue once it's in place. I'll attach a clip of what it sounds like, it's kinda hard to capture it on video but the clip should give you the gist of the issue. (In the clip I have the CEL on because I just got a HFC installed and it is not yet tuned, I checked with VAGCom and it said cat inefficiency so this is unrelated to the issue I am having).
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

EDIT: So I just received my car back today from a local tuning shop after dropping it off to see if they could diagnose the issue for me. The tech's had said that the original DV valve was in perfect shape so they didn't bother replacing it to the new Revision D valve (which I was kind of pissed that they took out the old one and put it back in and didn't even bother just swapping it out with the new one, but oh well.). On top of that, the guy I was working with had said that it could potentially be the waste gate not being used to dealing with the volume of air from the intake and high flow cat installed in my car. The only issue is is that the sounds and problems I thought I was experiencing were happening prior to those parts being installed. The tech said that the cars boost curve was normal for what it should be and that everything was matching up to be fine although he did hear the noise and said that it was probably the waste gate and that they were unsure how to fix it 100%. There were no boost leaks, nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated because now Audi couldn't help me and now this shop couldn't either so I'll leave it to the Audi guru's on this forum.
