    Sunshade Options

Hey guys, I'm having a reoccurring issue with my OEM sunshade fogging up the windshield of my car. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue before. I used to have the roll-up reflective one on my VW and never had a issue like this. I'm considering selling mine because I'm tired of it fogging up my clean windshield. I don't know if it's the heat, but now I want to find one like I had in my VW.

    I want one like this:

I have the OEM fold up one like you have in the top picture and had the same issue occurring. I stopped using it since I got it since it was winter/spring time.

I bought mine from heatshieldstore.com and it works great. No fogging up problems.

An expensive yet satisfying option would be to tint your front windshield with 3m Crystalline 70 tint. It will block about 90% of the heat from coming through your front window and you won't have to carry a large foldable visor in your car anymore. I always tint my cars with 3m and can attest to the heat rejection properties. I live in Sunny ☀️ Southern California for reference.

Who performed your tint job? I might want to do this on the RS3.

Ceramic tint by Llumar works well. I can notice a temp difference from front ( non-tint ) to the tinted back just by the feel of my hand. Blocks out almost all damaging UV rays

I have a covercraft one. Use it everyday in the NC heat and humidity. Zero issues. My 4th one...they are used for any car I drive.

    I don't think Crystaline blocks 90% heat...

According to the 3M website, 3M Crystalline 70 Tint has the following specs:
    Visible light transmitted: 69%
    Total Solar Energy Rejected: 50%
    Infrared Rejection: 97%
    Visible Light Reflection: 9%
    UV Rejection: 99.9%
    Glare Reduction: 22%
So, it does cut down heat (Solar Energy) by 50% and blocks UV rays which is quite good. But, not 90%.
Current: 2016 S5 in Sepang Blue with Technik Package.

That sounds more reasonable. My suntek 80 has very similar properties. Highly recommend tinting every bit of glass too, though, even the sunroof.

Sounds like it's the sunshade outgassing.

Has anyone tried the weathertech version?

Without a sunshade in my 2015 S3 my car is out-gassing since it sits in the sun all day at work. Every 2 days I come back to a film on my windows. I was thinking about getting a sunshade also..

I have the rear sunscreen in my s3. its a genuine Audi accessory for the 8v sedans. the rear window screen also comes with 2 tiny triangle screens for the triangle glass.. it really helps reduce heat and light from entering the car when parked. was thinking of also getting the screens for the rear passenger windows- i like the function of tint but don't want it to be permanent or not easily removed like the screens...

Just FYI, I no longer have the S3, but with my A6 I made sure to go with WeatherTech since they have the type of shade I wanted. I haven't experienced a single case of out-gassing with it.

You might want to consider going with 3M crystalline 70 or Llumar Air80 on the front windshield, it's incredible how much heat it cuts out. It's honestly better than a windshield shade and you have the benefits while driving. I have 3M crystalline on the C6.5 and Llumar Air80 on the C7.5 and I prefer Air80 which is slightly clearer optically and cuts the same amount of heat.
