It was a JLNP file. very small in size. I copy n pasted to my sd card but when I put it into the MMI it was not lit(didn't recognize it). Tried also with a USB.... Thought I didn't have the sd card in right format so I checked and it was fat32. I loaded some songs onto it and reads the songs fine.....

I don't recall the exact steps, but I believe the initial download is for a Java applet, which you must then run on your computer (with Java installed). The applet then connects to Audi's servers to download the actual map data. It should not be a small file. It was around 6GB altogether.

ok so after playing some tricks and researching it.... I realized that I was using windows 10 with Edge and it does NOT support java...so I had to download Chrome and Java.... After it prompt me to connect to Audi server and now its downloading the proper files.... I chose North America so its like 16GB... will confirm after it downloads and check back that it downloaded into my MMI...

    Thanks every1!!!

I did mine a couple of months ago and had no issues. 16GB download sounds about right. My Mac automatically extracts zip files on download, and I copied the extracted folder to the SD card. The upgrade was detected and worked fine... took quite a while to install. 30+ minutes. I don't think you can place the zip file onto the SD card, it must be unzipped first.

Just curious and slightly off topic here but is it possible to install and activate navigation on an a3 that otherwise does not have it? To my understanding it seems it is doable with the sd card, is there anyone that currently sells a aftermarket retro?

How do you open the jnlp file? You can not drag/drop the files. JavaWS should be used to run the jnlp, then select the SD partition as "destination", then it will push the update files into your SD card. This way your MMI will recognize the SD card as an update medium.

The jnlp file is just an "installer". It does not hold any actual data. Javaws allows you to download and run that from the web.

    1. Open a command line and type: cmd> javaws xxxx.jnlp
    2. Follow the setup wizard and select your SD card partition when it asks for installation destination
    3. It takes couple of minutes to download the actual maps and install it on your SD card (be patient)
    4. when done, safely remove your SD card and hop in the car :D

    Hope that helps!

If you had issues running CMD (command line) follow this for opening the jnlp file:

So if I remember correct, When I downloaded the updates, I used Java to install it on my PC. The file was around 18Gb. When it was complete I copied the files to my SD card but when I tried to install it on my car, it was not highlighted or it didn't recognize it. I even read it needed to be in FAT32 format.

I am trying a new method.....I will download the files with JAVA and have it installed directly on to my SD card instead of picking a destination folder on my PC and then dragging onto SD card.

So I tried again and still it was not highlighted. I will try once more and reformat the sd card and make sure it's in faT32 .
