Sport / Dynamic Mode and no downshift?

Was at the track yesterday and had an issue that I've never encountered before and wondering if I'm missing something or if anyone else has had the same issue? I was in dynamic mode and on several corners used the paddles to down shift into 3rd. However on the next corner I was approaching the car was in 5th gear and I didn't use the paddles to downshift. After turning the corner I jammed the accelerator to the floor and I had no power...at first I thought the car went into limp mode but then realized the car stayed in 5th car. Even in manual mode the car should automatically downshift right?

After my session I went out and tested it again by up shifting to M4 then braking hard then jamming on the gas with car around 2,000 rpm and nothing? Stuck in 4th gear...am I missing something? The car should be downshifting automatically right?

Not if you are in manual mode. At least not in my S5.

It should be downshifting- I've gone into a corner and used the paddles to go from 5-4, then when I floored the gas pedal it kicked down once more on its own. However on the street/on ramp I've had it in manual mode and it chugged at lower RPMs before going to full throttle and an automatic downshift

Are you engaging the kick-down? You can floor it hard but unless you feel the pedal click and engage the kick down the car wont downshift on its own (when in manual mode).

Mine downshifts on its own if you let the revs and speed drop.

Put the pedal to the floor to test it and still same result. At least the upshift at 6,200 RPM's still works just cant figure out why its not downshifting when running at lower RPM's.

There's a physical switch at the end of the throttle pedal. That's the kick-down switch. Triggering it in manual mode will cause the transmission to automatically downshift to the lowest possible gear at your current rpm, otherwise it will only automatically downshift a gear if you let the rpm drop to a point where the engine would lug or stall.

Exactly. You can definitely feel the click when you activate it.

OP are you feeling the pedal click, or are you just fully depressing the pedal?

Not downshifting because it's in manual mode after you used the paddles. Push back on the shifter to put it back into S mode.

Pure speculation here but I believe there is a behavior difference when the center console shifter is pushed to the right (manual mode) vs. just using the paddle shifters in D or S. My understanding is that if the console shifter is pushed to the right (Manual mode), it will not downshift when you floor the throttle.

Not true. On my B8 when in D and trigger manual mode with the paddles the car will downshift when i floor it (have to engage the floor trigger).

The auto downshift and upshift can be disabled with a TCU flash. Is yours still on the stock flash?
