Just purchased 2008 A4 S-line-fault code question

Just got a sweet deal on a 2008 A4 2.0L S-line. The car has 57,000 on it and is in pristine condition. I test drove it two different times over a period of two weeks and it performed great. Before the purchase I did a scan with my VAG-COM and came up with this entry and I'm not sure what to think of it. None of the numbers match to any of the trouble codes in my Bentley manual

Could also be something as simple as water in the ECU box, pull the wiper arms and pop the ECU cover, water in there will throw random errors but usually more than 1...

That's a simple cause, but not a simple problem. It's generally an electrical nightmare.

You may have the SE edition instead of the true S-Line package.

Tiptronic, and I believe you are right about this being an SE. It has the S-Line badge on the front, but it does not have the badge on the steering wheel, and the wheels are 17".

Also, with respect to the fault code, I have not had any indication of any intermittent electrical problem. I will be checking my ECU this evening for water.

Before you do that, verify that your cruise control is working, being that it is an intermittent error reported could be something as simple as trying to operate the bluetooth without having the phone paired. Basically the error is reporting that something in the multi function steering wheel is not doing what it's suppose to.

This! Do you have an aftermarket headunit? I've had the same soft code for years now. Everything runs as it should. I wish it was more specific.

I did engage the cruise control, but I did not test any of its other functions such as accelerate or decelerate. I will check this out on the ride home tonight. I did notice that there is no phone cradle in the center console. Would pressing the phone button on the steering wheel cause this fault if the phone cradle is missing? I have a 2006 A4 Avant that is also missing the phone cradle and there are no codes like this on that vehicle.

A couple of people asked for more photos so here goes. I also found the original window sticker for the car and a list of options on a sticker in the owner's manual. It shed some light on some of the points people brought up here. Apparently this car is an SE with an S-Line exterior package, so not a true S-Line. I'm not sure what the point of that was. I also found out that it was setup for an iPod. Sure enough, when I took a closer look in the glove box I found the cradle for the iPod.

if you knew that and your question was why, then i have no clue either

The 'S-Line' package gives you a little bit more 'sportier' features than the standard version such as the pedals, door sills, 3-spoke steering and sport suspension - which can also be a standalone option. I might miss one or two items like wheels but this is what you get for a few extra bucks.

poor sales of a4 or slines? a guy i know has a passat that i THINK is a 3.2 that looks much better optioned than pretty much any b7, so maybe its a diff gen ( much diff key fob) but definetely not too new.

It was the end of the B7, so they slapped on some makeup on the old hag and pimped her out!
