Broken screw receiver on rear license plate

My rear license plate is missing one screw receiver. Can you just get that part, or do you need to buy the whole damn rear license plate assembly? Here is a picture of the part I am talking about. Thanks for any help.

Hey I lost one too. Same spot on my B5 as well. Is it the bottom right one?

No, top right. The car is new to me, so some idiot overtightened it I guess. Kind of a messed up thing.

Both of my missing ones got pushed in. I tried to take my plate carrier off but lost interest after it didn't come loose with the 2 external screws.

Finally found a link on it. Seem very common. I have some plastic thingy in one hole that is garbage really. Doesn't sit flush. Yeah, I know I am a little particular, but I like it on there right. I wonder if that clip is just floating around in there somehow? Guess I could just pull the holder off and see. The tape is pretty tough stuff though. Worst case, I could get the part and start over. Geez, a lot of work for ONE damn screw receiver.

They look very close to what we use at work in our network cabinets. Rack mount cage nuts.

I'll pull my plate tomorrow and try to verify size.

I had 1 fall in the place holder. I removed the plate and had to cut out a good chunk of plastic from the plate holder and use a magnet to get the clip put. They can be very tuff to reinstall. I made the cut out to remove it so it wouldn't rattle around. That plate holder is seriously double sided taped on.

This picture is pretty helpful actually. I would imagine my clip is under their somewhere. Maybe I could pry it a bit to retrieve it. What a pain to deal with this to have four screws holding your license plate.

This is a very common issue with the rear license plate, they use a very brittle metal for the screw mounts from the factory.
What I did was Dremel slightly larger holes on the bottom two mounts and swing the trunk up/down to shake the loose metal brackets down to the bottom. Once they are down there you can use a small magnetic magic wand tool to get them out.
Then I replaced the top two with plastic push in mounts you can find at any local auto parts store. The won't corrode and will never break off.

Basically what I did but did not want to SHAKE to get them loose or in the location I need to use to remove. Tried to avoid all possible scratches even if hidden as possible.

It is. With all the screws out, gently pry at the bottom slowly. Once you have a little gap the lost clip will fall out. Helps to have the trunk open and sort of shake it.

Just push them all out and do what Choppstixx said...replace them with universal push-in nylon mounts from a local parts store.

PS...this happened on both my Audis.
