Is this water in my brake fluid?

Just flushed brake system. Fluid was maybe 3 years old (tops) and only about 20k miles on the fluid.

It looks a bit like oil and water when the two mix. There doesn't appear to be much, but several beads of something (assuming its moisture) in the fluid.

    Anybody know what this is?

Doesn't make sense as the water would be on the bottom. Might be gasoline or another lighter oil. But you'd probably figure it wouldn't separate.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means that it mixes with water. You can also wash it off with water, if you spill it. Those bubbles in the fluid look more like oil, if you ask me.

#1 is contaminated old brake fluid with moisture in it (2 year old)

Interesting...how is motor oil mixing in brake system? They're two separate systems, how is this possible? And if it is oil, what does this me And?

No idea if it is motor oil. Could be grease when somebody before tried to lubricate the dust boots on the brake pistons or something.

hygroscopic means it absorbs moisture easily (leaving a brake fluid container open for a couple hours will ruin it)

It's likely grease as I had to disassemble the calipers for powder coating. I lubed the Pistons a pretty good before install. Sounds like it's fine as caliper lube should be ok to mix w/ brake fluid.

Depending on which grease you used for lubrication?

Popper caliper piston grease like "ATE BREMSZYLINDER-PASTE" disolves in the brake fluid. I use it on my brake pistons and I don't get such spots in my brake fluid.

Potato potatoe. We both meant the same thing.
