Sorry if I'm asking the obvious here, but any chance you just need to adjust the beams a bit higher? When I lowered my SQ5, the first time I drove at night I thought both headlights were out. It was crazy. All back to normal after a few turns of the screwdriver. I don't drive regularly in rural areas, but I have done so on a couple of occasions without issue.
Total FWIW, but back in my GM full-size SUV days, there were folks who installed driving lights in the lower valance, between the tow hooks. Huge improvement, and a much better mod in lieu of trying to get value out of higher output fog lights. I can totally see this working on our machines.
