    Light Bar ??

Anyone have a light bar installed on their Q?

I'm thinking about having a 20" bar installed behind my grill and bolted onto the steel crash support beam.

I'm finding my headlights are insufficient at night in rural areas.

    Thoughts?

I've been thinking about doing the same thing. I've seen it done on a B8.5 allroad and it was super clean.

I can't say I agree there's insufficient light from the Q5 for rural areas. That's where I live and I think the Q has excellent lights.
It does look clean installed in that manner but this isn't something I'd install on my Q personally.
I feel light bars are all the rage now but seem more like a "Jeep thing" that I don't understand and don't care to because first of all Jeeps suck and second of all, mail order catalog add-ons like that belong on those types of vehicles.
The light bar also seems to have become the new irritant on the road for dentally challenged, Joe Dirt hooligans who think blinding everybody is great fun. It has supplanted the subwoofer and is vying for the title of "look at me everybody I'm a clueless douche" with modified domestic diesel trucks rolling coal with huge flags out back.
But that's just my opinion on light bars. Sorry for the rant.

lolz. I doubt RJ would drive through Manhattan with an LED light bar on strobe mode.

Sorry if I'm asking the obvious here, but any chance you just need to adjust the beams a bit higher? When I lowered my SQ5, the first time I drove at night I thought both headlights were out. It was crazy. All back to normal after a few turns of the screwdriver. I don't drive regularly in rural areas, but I have done so on a couple of occasions without issue.

Total FWIW, but back in my GM full-size SUV days, there were folks who installed driving lights in the lower valance, between the tow hooks. Huge improvement, and a much better mod in lieu of trying to get value out of higher output fog lights. I can totally see this working on our machines.

Maybe my headlights needs adjusting? I was just in Maine and when it got dark with no lights illuminating the roads, my headlights just sucked, even with the high beams on. Heck, my fog lights which I swapped to LEDs provided better illumination.

Correct, it would tap into my high beams and only use it when I need my high beams....or to get the attention of the ladies....

Do you have it connected to your high beams or a separate switch?

If you want to do it right, find a way to get ARB fogs behind the grille. This is the sort of mod you have to right the first time, otherwise it wont look right.

i'd be tempted to flash those lights at every idiot in CA that thinks the left lane is the cruising lane.

Mine certainly needed adjusting after lowering. I live in rural area and definitely noticed a decrease in light on the road post lowering.

I was thinking about doing exactly that, behind the grille, but with a Rigid E Series midnight series flood/spot combo. Midnight as in black, so it's not as visible during the day

I'd definitely try adjusting them first. I found the lighting to be more than adequate out in the country here in VA the other night. I've got ecodes, so the cutoff is different, but I'm still using the stock bulbs. The adjustment is simple to do with just a phillips head: How to Properly Re-Calibrate and Adjust Adaptive Bi-Xenon Headlights
