Seems to me it can only be A/C condensation, windshield wiper leak (if you happen to have water in the system instead of the colored washer fluid), or coolant. Oil would definitely smoke, fuel has a very obvious odor, and coolant is colored and has a distinct odor as well.
On my other cars, A/C condensation is released through a short tube or hose. Like I said before, maybe the tube or hose was re-routed or left in an awkward position when exhaust work was done cause the water to drip on to exhaust.
Here's another thought. In the normal combustion process, there is some condensation that results in water dripping out of the tail pipe. My '02 Tahoe has a small exhaust leak in the muffler and the condensation leaks out of there. Maybe, and I'm just grasping at straws here, there is an exhaust leak that allows the condensation to leak. But I think this is a far stretch; anytime exhaust is worked on, the tech will have an exhaust leak detector to make sure everything is buckled down tight and no exhaust leaks are present.
Is it safe to drive, well, if it's truly water, I don't think it's an issue. But, I'd definitely take the car back to have the exhaust people take a look to see if the work they did is the cause.
