Need Your Opinion! 2018 S5 SB or 2017 S6!?!?

Hey all,

So I stopped by my local Audi dealership today and they talked me into turning in my 2015 S4 lease early for a trade in which I will be doing tomorrow. Now my dilemma is they have a Prestige 2018 S5 Sportback in Daytona Gray and also a 2017 P+ S6 in Sepang Blue w/ Black Optics that I am deciding between. I know these are two very different cars to compare but the deal on the S6 would actually be lower payments than the S5 which is really making consider the S6. The dealer is not giving much of a deal on the S5 and I know they really do not want to sell it and keep it as a demo car.

2018 Prestige S5 - MSRP $68,350 - Selling Price $66,750 - $5,000 down - $872 month lease
2017 Premium+ S6 - MSRP $83,195 - Selling Price $76,796 - $5,000 down - $865 month lease

As you can see I can get a S6 for cheaper than the S5 which makes me think I would be crazy to not get the S6. I went into Audi specifically looking at the S5 as it was the exact build that I wanted. I prefer the styling and hatch of the S5 but the performance of S6 is hard to turn down.

What would you do?

Huge fan of the S5 SB, and I'm excited for all of the new toys, but I say S6 100%. Seems like a great time to get into one for a great price. I'd also offer $825 for the hell of it.

That said, I guarantee you could get that SB for $750 elsewhere.

I'm not sold on the new A5/S5 bodies....maaaaaybe if the S6 was a horrible colour but Sepang?....you can't go wrong.

If the S5 SB had a red gut I'd say go with that but from the pictures that doesn't look to be the case. I would go with the S6. They're probably trying to move the S6 since the 18's are around the corner that's why they made it a little bit cheaper then the S5 SB

Thanks for the responses. I really prefer the S5 but its hard to justify such a bad deal on the car vs how good of a deal I can get for the S6. The S5 has all the new tech, style lines, hatch, and a newer look while the S6 has the powerful V8TT motor with an exhaust that sounds wonderful.

Adjustable suspension height
DSG Transmission
APR Tune immediately available

S6 Cons
Heavy! Feel the weight in the turns
Older style looks
No digital dash
I prefer the Daytona/chrome contrast over the Sepang/black

S5 Pros
I love the style
Daytona Gray is favorite color
Prestige options (Interior LED custom lighting, driver assistance, HUD, dynamic steering)
Hatch - Ease to haul MTB bike
Digital Dash
Rare car not seen on roads

S5 Cons
The deal is horrible
Lacking power compared to S6 and my current tuned S4
No APR tune available

My mind keeps going back and forth!

I'd go for the s5 for this reason, also for practicality of a hatch.

Thanks all for your advice. I am still contemplating my upcoming decision that's going to take place in about 5 hours but it seems like the majority of everyone agrees with the S6.

If I decide to go with the S6, I am going to try to get an even better deal because I know they really want to get rid of the car. I doubt they will budge much at all on the S5.

Negotiate harder and get the Sportback

The S6 is very late in its life cycle and we'll see the redesigned A6 in Q3 next year. Shortly after is the new S6 obviously.

I base the MLB EVO chassis and technical components under the sheet metal for 100% of my decision. I think its much more fun than the S6, the S6 obviously has the better engine though

I would take the s6 for a short term lease, and then give it back for a s5 if theres a refresh. new tech is nice. but.....

I think there will be more of a regret if ur sitting in ur s5 and looking at the s6 and saying " damn I coulda had that "

I vote for the S5 It looks so much better than the S6. The S6 doesn't have any flash to it, looks like a dated sedan. Plus the S5 has all the new Tech that digital dash is the bomb!

Well I am packing up and getting ready to leave work to head to Audi in the next 5 min. I think I am leaning towards the S6 but I am known to be an impulse buyer. We shall see soon!!!

I would have said the same before falling in love with the 4.0 V8. What an incredible powerplant. Displacement AND forced induction? YESPLEASEANDTHANKYOU.

I usually am very conscious of redesigns, but for once in my life, I would gladly take the old S6 over the new 5. Never thought I'd say that, but I just did. Especially in Sepang.

The car will age so well, just like RS4 and RS6 IMO.

Wait half year and road will be full of the new s5 while s6 one every ten thousands cars on the road . By the way , there won't be any new s6 until 2019 at least

I suppose. My '16 SQ5 feels dated after adding the '17 S3 with VC. Either way, no matter the 6 year old body and interior, I still find that car so handsome and executive.

Congratulations! If U do the same w/this car as your signature indicated on your last, U will have one of, if not the best description of a wolf in sheeps clothing. There have been 2 separate occasions where several Audi "enthusiasts" have gathered/driven our cars & 1 of them is a RevoTuned S6. Not 1 of Us (tuned S5's & RS5's) could keep up w/him on the straights. His car is a monster for HP/speed. I imagine U will spend more time on the S6 forum, hit up @pawels for some more info ~ his car. I'm sure he'd enjoy giving U some helpful insights/info if U R interested. Best advice is by a GOOD radar detector, U R gonna need it, 😁

Yes dated, but like in a fine wine way. The S6 is the first car we are actually considering buying when the lease is up, and I usually don't even make it until the end of the lease at all lol. So that's saying something!! If they weren't booting the 4.0 for next generation, I would feel differently, but now I want to squirrel it away :)

That's a tough choice. On one hand you have a beast of an engine, whereas the other you have the latest and greatest tech but it's a first model year.

With that being said...when are we going to see a RS7 turbo swap in it?
