    Best ECU Tune?

    I'm looking to get a Stage 1 Tune on my 2016 A3 that's got just over 9K..

Is APR being used by anyone on here? I've been told they are the best and their numbers
are real. From what I've read on their website, a Stage 1 Tune would put my A3 having
just over 300HP using 93 Octane. Currently, it has 220HP..

Any advise would greatly be appreciated..

    Thx!

its all really subjective. you need to also ask yourself what your future tuning goals are and which tuning company would cater to those goals in the future. its also nice to have local support, so you may want to take that into consideration, as well.

my vote though, goes to United Motorsports.

I have no experience with other tunes, but the APR tune absolutely transformed my car when I got it. I have a '15 A3 and after tuning it was almost unbelievable how much the car had changed. Worth every penny to me.

    Best ECU Tune?

No experience with APR, my local shop pulled from selling any APR tunes... claimed to many cars where blowing up and way to many issues. I've seen multiple posts from people with problems but also seen many people extremely happy with the tune. I can't give my opinion on it because I've never used APRs tune. I do have their intake though

My A3 is tuned by unitronic. Started with stage 1+ the first week of owning the car. Night and day difference. It's crazy. I'm currently stage 2 and I'll be stage 2 + within the next week. As far as "real" numbers I don't know. I never got the car dyno tested or know if there's a big difference with APR and unitronic. One thing I would recommend is getting the DSG tune. I didn't get the stage 2 DSG for a long time after stage 2 ECU. Possible regret doing that for the harshness that was put onto the DSG transmission. It started shifting very weird, hard , and just wasn't acting right. After getting the DSG tuned there's zero issues.

Agreed on subjectivity, strap them all to the same dyno on the same day and with just stage 1, I doubt any one of them would vary so far from the other that you'd actually feel it on the road.

Talk to your local tuning shops, they see thousands of cars per year, and go with their recommendations. Mine still recommends APR, and I've had two Audis and almost 4 years worth of APR tunes without a problem, but it's still luck of the draw. Parts fail prematurely on stock cars, and if you've got anything that's even close to failure now, even stage 1 will push it over the edge. My tuning shop is close to my dealer and so flashing back to stock for dealer service visits is not a hassle; if they were 40 miles apart that might be a bigger PITA. Lots of options let you flash back to stock at home now, stock enough that a regular service visit won't auto-flag the car anyhow.

Personally I'm using the APR stage 1 ecu tune and I absolutely love it. The car is so much more fun to drive, it should have came from the factory this way.

I had APR ecu and tcu tunes on my previous 2013 2.0T Mk6 Gti and there was zero issues during my 100,000 miles of ownership. I progressed from stage 1 to stage 2 and eventually k04 as well.
My usage besides daily commute included a couple track days each year and canyon runs every other week.

I have Eurodyne Stage 1.5. Love the power, love that I can flash and unlash at home. But, the partial-throttle response isn't super smooth - the car definitely feels a little jumpy/peaky at part throttle. Little throttle or WOT is fine, and a lot of fun.

When I owned a shop with a dyno we used to see all OTS and custom tunes. We actually used to run the OTS rune as a baseline and then adjust with the Acessport. This was Subby/Evo and GTR tunes.

We have had some OTS tunes come in that we couldn't actually better (safely). All of OTS tunes were tuned to be safe to take into consideration all weather conditions, driving styles, altitude etc.

Even when we did Dyno tune we used to "turn it down a bit" before the customer left (everyone is sooo concerned about a Dyno sheet and 5 WHP they made over their buddies). This assured us that they weren't going to floor it in 5 or 6 gear at 3000 rpm and put extensive loads on the engine, ones that you cant see on the dyno. Todays OTS tunes are pretty damn good and our ECU's are super fast and reactive.

I am running stage-2 ED and Stage-2 ED TCU. Meastro is not out yet for our platform so I cant try to adjust myself, the adjustable map for Octane and boost in my opinion is a gimmick as the ECU reacts quicker to low octane levels and pulls timing anyway. Maestro is a different beast, you can make HARD settings on the ECU through the tuning suite.

We had a guy come in with a Dynosheet printed at 520 WHP on a 2011 STI, we didn't touch a thing and actually gave him a little on the correction factor, he made 415 WHP. I can make a Dyno read whatever I want it to keep that in mind here guys.

This is very good advice. I used to be in the Subaru game and everybody would be dick swinging about their Dyno numbers. I had one of the best tuners in the area tune my STI and I was super disappointed in the numbers. But, when you compared stock to tuned, the gains were huge. My stock 2007 STI was only putting 210 WHP down but after the tune I was putting down 265 whp and 315 ft lb of torque. While my peak numbers weren't touching others numbers, my overall gains were much higher than the others.

So basically, you can make a dyno read whatever you want it to read. The important thing is that the tune is safe and the total gains in AUC after the tune. That is why I take all flash tune marketing with a grain of salt.

This is why I have a similar thread started with my main goal of being safe and trouble free...because most tunes are within a stones throw of each other.
    If I helped you...Rep me!

    Best ECU Tune?

Too lazy to type a story explaining all the basics. But United motorsports and APR are the most aggressive tunes currently out -

When researching tunes on ANY platform,Do not look at dyno numbers. Look at who's producing the fastest cars with the highest trap speeds

United motorsports gets my vote hands down,ECU and dsg tune
    2010 ZR1 - 9.5 @ 151
    2013 CTS-V - 9.8 @ 141
    2005 EVO - 9.6 @ 149

UM has 3 levels of aggressiveness for their stage 1. so while they may have the most aggressive, they also have the most tame file as well.

I had a great experience with AMR Performance!

Custom tuning is much better than the generic off the shelf tunes. ^Giac vs AMR custom tune
