    Oil level sensor light

My yellow oil level light keeps coming on. Oil is above middle notch on dipstick. I changed the sensor last year and it went away for a while. Forward to this week it illuminated again with oil above middle notch. I went to Audi and bought a new sensor then swapped it again. 60 miles later it comes back on. Belly pan is dry and again oil is full.

I checked the fuse and it's good. A few test that I have done so far include:
    1. Swapping the fuse for a new one. Took the fuse out and temp disappeared but oil level light stayed
    2. Unplugging the oil sensor and only the temp disappeared but yellow oil light is still on. Weird!!
    3. Checked wire harness and nothing seems loose. Looks like the harness was cut before and the plug was swapped out. Evidence are butt connectors connecting the wires.

Hood switch turns off the oil light after being open for 30 seconds. I know a few people who went thru this but ended up coding out the oil sensor which is something I'm trying to avoid.

Any help on this sensor situation?
ALSO I MADE SURE IT IS NOT THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR WHICH IS A RED LIGHT. THIS LIGHT IS A YELLOW MIN OIL LEVEL LIGHT. Thanks

I had the same issue. SoI coded out the oil sensor level via vag. Oil temp is still functional. Nothing wrong with checking oil manually.

Thanks. Lucky enough it took some fiddling to make it work. I unplugged the sensor and cleaned the terminals again. Left the sensor unplugged and pressed the check button to let it scan with the key on. Plugged it in afterwards and started the car. A big yellow message saying oil sensor displayed which didn't happen before. Cleared the code with the vagcom. Went on level surface and topped it off. Took a drive and no more oil level light. 200 mile trip and it's all good. Usually the light kicked on after 30-60 miles.

That's one thing I didn't try - unplug and press the scan. Maybe I'll give that a shot. Otherwise, I'll turn it off again.

Mine also went off for a while after I replaced the sensor, but eventually came back. That's when I turned it off.

Either unplug it or remove the #5 10a fuse and scan it fir the sensor code to display. It's like a jumpstart to get the ecu to pick up the sensor reading. Then clear the code after and it should be back to normal.

Also if you pop your hood and the oil light Doesn't turn off in 1 minute then either the fuse is blown, the hood latch sensor isn't working, or the plug harness to the sensor is damaged. If it's the harness you can get a new one fir $60-$90 bucks. Has two female ends and takes 5 mins to replace.

I started having this problem a couple years ago. Did the same thing the OP did. My min. light comes on at different levels on my dipstick. Makes no sense?
Btw, I have a barely used oil level sensor if someone needs one? Make an offer.

After I did a hard reset it hasn't come back yet. This seems to be a common problem that can make you waste money on sensors. I went thru 2 sensors before I finally did a hard reset and now it's fine. Very annoying light!!!!
