    2002 Audi s6 avant....should I buy?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking to get another avant and looking for advice. I have a B6 S4 sedan and like the b6 S4 avant but I would imagine back seat has very little room.

I've read reviews of the s6 avant and seems like everyone loves them. Is it that GOOD?

Found one with 123k on it for reasonable price...

I looked at Avant's before I bought my sedan and they are very nice. My a6 has plenty of room and that's the main reason I didn't buy an s4

The engine is much more reliable than the B6 S4's V8 (or at least easier and less expensive to live with, given lack of timing chain and cylinder scoring issues). Probably the biggest downside in the comparison is the S6's transmission; both the lack of a manual offering, and the fact that it's a 5 speed ZF versus the 6HP19 in the B6, but it's a solid car overall.

Buy the S6, never should've sold mine. Looks, luxury, space, torque! Nothing else like it really.

For reference I sold mine in December with 140k for $9k even. That's with a complete repair history with receipts. Body was mint with one tiny spot of rust on the tailgate.

Overall, they're great cars. Just the usual BS to deal with on an aging car. OE parts are getting harder to find but there's plenty of aftermarket providers.

We've been using a C5 S6 Avant as our family vehicle for the past 2.5 years and it's been an outstanding vehicle. I found one with really low mileage and spent quite a bit of effort refurbishing the 13 year old suspension (control arms, dampers, bushings, spring seats, rear springs, etc) in addition to basic maintenance and a TB job. However, we now have a very comfortable car with a ton of cargo space that has a 340hp v8 and is unstoppable in the snow. I had Daz (RIP) tune the TCU, which made a huge difference in shift quality. It still makes me smile every time I drive it.

edit: Forgot to mention how well it tows a trailer with its nice torque curve and relatively short gearing. Not that I tow a huge boat or anything, but it will pull a loaded large utility trailer like it's not even there.

    Do it!
I got a great deal on mine 7 month or so ago and love it. Tons of backseat and cargo space for the family and lots of fun to drive, in comfort, around town and on road trips.
Sure they get bad gas mileage, but you only live once :D

Thanks for all the input. Wife has a C5 allroad 4.2 for the family and loves that thing. I'm looking to get rid of my 550i and found a C5 s6 avant with 123k for 7k and there's another one with 53k for 18.5k....

Just FYI, the 4.2 in the C5 Allroad is different than the 4.2 in the C5 S6. Chain drive vs belt drive.

$7k sounds like a fair price for one with 123k.
