Holy Grail Found: Nardo RS5 Sport Edition for sale - need advice

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've been intensely shopping for an RS5 for awhile now, hoping to find a Nardo Gray one and am ok with "settling" for Suzuka as Nardo's just aren't found.

BUT somehow out of nowhere I just found the golden eagle: a Sport Edition model, 1 of 75 ever made. I wasn't even sure these really existed as I've never seen one for sale.

    It has EVERY OPTION:
Nardo Gray special edition exterior paint = $3200 (some Sport Editions had Daytona Gray, others Nardo)
Audi Sport Edition Exclusive black and red interior = $8800 with Nardo-painted center console :)
Black Optic Package = $3000 (includes Sport Edition wheels - black rotors w/red lip)
    Tech Package = $2900
    Driver Assistance Package = $2750
    Red Calipers = $500

    Also has:
$12k of custom rims (factory rims/tires never used)
    Clear bra on front

    MSRP = $93k

Late 2015 model with under 15kmi, 2-owner, no accidents etc. ASKING $75k

So I was only looking to spend $60k, then 4k in sales taxes, $3k in extended warranty = $67k max all-in but now comes this opportunity.

He will NOT part out the $12k of custom rims and sell it cheaper so Id have to sell those separately and hope to get what, maybe 3-4k for them?

Is $75k for a genuine Sport Edition reasonable? (never seen one for sale)

    What would you do?

Only 75 were ever built... someone else will buy it if you don't. Not sure if it would be considered an investment, and actually appreciate over time, but I'd imagine you could sell it in the future without taking an absolutely massive depreciation hit. I mean, look at the B7 RS4s. Clean ones, especially those with rare colors/options are still selling in the high $30Ks and $40Ks

Which wheels are on it now? Selling those may get you closer to the price you want.

If I were in a position to afford it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it and leave it 100% stock. You'd have to spend at least the $10k-$15k difference just to get a "normal" RS5 to look the same inside and out. Own the exclusivity!

Trust me - its real - I have the window sticker and VIN and ran a Carfax on it and it all checks out :)

One issue is that I dont actually love the red and black custom interior - I just love the factory Nardo paint. So one option is to just buy a regular RS5 for $55k and wrap it for $3k.

What makes the SE more attractive though is the fact that its REAL factory Nardo paint, plus a very limited edition that could have enough collector value to where it retains the extra $15k Id be paying for it.

Good points and thank you for the advice - wheels now are Vossen 20" so I'd think I could get a few grand for them. The tough part is that the bulk of the value of the SE is the Interior trim - I love the red stitching and Nardo center console/door trim - but the seats are very in-your-face. If it had performance upgrades as part of the $15k SE package, I could see a lot of collector value in the future but not sure that Interior upgrades will make it that much more valuable in the eyes of future buyers. Plus I plan on keeping it for a LONG time so its not so much about future value as it is a matter of do I want to pay that much for it.

Plenty of people do... shouldn't be hard to find someone willing to pay you big money to trade your seats for theirs.

Perhaps Id replace them with regular RS5 seats but Id have to keep the SE seats to sell with the car in the future or else it would no longer be a genuine/collectible SE model!

Its definitely not that one as the TAG Nasty Nardo had the factory Nardo paint but was not a SE and the one Im looking at doesnt have any of those mods (air suspension etc) - it has only 2 mods - the Vossen rims and 3M clear bra.

If you've got the cash to spend 67k...what's another 6k. part out the wheels yourself. He won't do it cause he knows he won't get anything near what he paid. And if you've been looking HARD for it...just get it since you are in it for the long haul. You gotta pay to play. the seller knows what he has. Someone else will scoop it up and you'll be pi$$ed watch it drive around town without you in it...LOL.

Sounds awesome. I would also think the RS5 should retain value like the RS4. Sounds like a good purchase if all checks out.

The problem is that its not another $6k as the $67k included the car, extended factory warranty and TT&L - so comparing apples to apples, its $6k + $3.5k for extended warranty + $4.5k for sales tax = $14k!

You wont regret it, I waited until I found the exact spec I wanted on my RS and it was definitely worth it. The new model already has a ton of mixed reviews and the B8.5 RS5 is just a timeless design. If Nardo makes you happy, then do it!!

While the car is rare, I think you should pass. While you want a nardo rs5, you admittedly aren't thrilled about the interior (which is a majority of the SE package). I don't see the point in paying the premium for the special edition if you don't absolutely love the parts that make it a special edition. Also when it comes to selling the wheels, it'll be tough. The second hand market for top tier custom wheels isn't huge (the PO obviously knows this), and offloading them may be more drawn out and yield less than you'd hope.

You also seem like you know exactly what you want to spend. I'd wager that number isn't arbitrary, and from the tone of your posts, it doesn't seem like this one is worth the jump.

Wow the first person saying NOT to buy it - I appreciate your honesty and kind of have to agree. On one hand I was genuinely considering getting a regular RS5 and paying $10-12k for a high-end custom paint shop to do a true Nardo full repaint. So this would have that cost built-in without losing the value like a repaint would. But then I also see the Suzuka 2014 RS5 Im still interested in for $60k and it looks even better and now even seems...cheap :)

I think ultimately it'll depend on how flexible the seller is - he is now saying the Vossens cost $6k not $12k as the $12k included the value of the original SE rims which he still has too and are brand new. So that means maybe $2-3k max in resale value for the Vossens. If he comes down in price then Id do it but if not budging, I'll probably pass and regret it one day but just not today.

I tend to agree w JoshDub. While the car is rare, if you don't love the interior now then it will bug you later. Patience will pay off and you will find a Nardo with an interior that you love and that you won't have to pimp your sister to buy.

Ben, As you know I was looking for a Nardo Grey Coupe for a long time and I gave up because the car is so rare. If I were you I would try negotiating the deal with the seller and pull the trigger. However, you would have to look at it from the stand point of pleasing yourself and owning a rare vehicle, not an investment. You really have to love the car in order to justify the sticker price. If you are already having issues with some part of the vehicle, you may regret your decision. So think it over quick and decide if the car is for you and then buy it. As you know, these cars don't stay long on the market when they are in pristine condition. Good luck, man! Hope you get it.

Thanks for the advice Bob - I agree but the only thing is that I don't think it will sell asap as it is very low-profile selling situation where I believe I'm likely the only one that even knows about it - it took a LOT of digging to find and even then I overlooked it - just happened to reach out on a whim today as a "just-in-case" as I was bored and it turned out to be quite an amazing find. But he still definitely knows what he has and seems well-heeled and not in a desperate situation to sell. IF the price came down to say $70k Id do it - beyond that its probably just not meant to be!

Ben if you can get it at $70K it would be great. However the difference between the asking price and your price is only $4K. Now, $4k is less than the price of a cup of coffee a day over the duration of your loan. So you can actually afford the car. That's why I said don't look at it as an investment but as a way to satisfy your inner self. If the car holds its value in the future, then it's a win-win for you. Honestly, I personally would pull the trigger. But first negotiate the price down a little. Good luck!

what a unique find. if you've been searching that long for the color, I'd go for it. It really is a stunning car. FWIW, I really like the interior and think that it sets off the exterior well. Good luck with the decision process!
