Oil leak near spark plugs and ignition coils?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My A4 seems to be leaking oil right underneath the spark plugs and ignition coils. Any idea where it could be coming from? If so how much would it be to fix it or is it possible for me to do it myself.

Just a leaky valve cover gasket. $100 on your own or $300+ at the dealership.

easy fix, just be carful taking the connections and coils off and your golden , you can certainly do it yourself with a set of torx bits and a gasket set . Just don't over reef them putting it back snug plus a quarter turn if you don't have a torque wrench.

Definitely a leaky valve cover gasket. Fairly easy job. Hardest part for me was getting the fused-on valve cover off without breaking it (it's only plastic). Get new bolts (ECS Tuning sells a VCG set), torque in the correct pattern (you can find it online), and don't torque them too tightly.

Thanks guys, any specific valve cover gasket i should be looking for? I see ECS Tuning has some as well as RockAuto, what do you guys think would work best for getting quality and a good price?

I would just get OEM. It's not that much more than the other brands.

Change the VCG. Also, check if any of the bolts are bad. I have all the bolts from my old VC. Let me know if you need them.

OE valve cover gasket is a good choice! I often use Elring gaskets also, I threw replacement valve cover bolts in the link below in case some of the gaskets are starting to get dry/cracked. I run an Elring gasket in my B7 and its been leak free for about 10K (for what its worth).

Just throwing it out there, have you try tightening the bolts? I was getting a puddle in the bolts every time I took the car over 3k after I purchased it, was sure the vc was warped and the gasket was blown

Half the bolts were loose. Tightened em and I haven't had an issue since

Valve cover gasket leak. Classic! About $20 part from the dealer. I did mine almost 6 months ago. Easy fix, just a bit of time-consuming. Make sure you clean up good around the mating surface before laying the new one. Here's my progress.
