Are the exhausts not the same between Quattro and frontrak?

The downpipes are different between FWD and Quattro. The hanger location is the largest difference in my experience.

On my FWD I used a Milltek 2.5" downpipe meant for Quattro, and just cut off the hanger. I meant to get a new hanger bracket welded on but never did. Now that same downpipe is on my Quattro, still without the hanger.

Yeah there isn't much in the way of fwd aftermarket downpipes.

I wonder if B5 Passat ones would work.

I ran a Labree downpipe without the bracket connected (using a B3 trans, so it didn't line up) and I had huge problems with the turbo>cat converter gasket and bolts loosening up, and even the manifold>turbo bolts backing out. Basically my turbo was trying to fall out the car. Once I hooked up the downpipe mount, the engine/exhaust movement no longer tranferred all the way up to the turbo and everything stayed tight and right.

You can buy one for the quattro, cut the mount, move it to where its supposed to be and weld it back. easy peasy. Dont forget to put some heat resistant paint on or it will rust quickly. I mad my own downpipe by welding a 2,5 " pipe to the decat pipe.

Sounds good, I just thought they would have made one for our applications. Oh well, sawing and welding it is.

Are you saying you can slightly modify a test pipe to use it as a downpipe?

I don't think anybody was saying that, but I actually did this on my B5 winter sled. I bought a B5 that came with a Test Pipe, and no downpipe at all. I needed a cat converter to pass emissions anyway, so I bought a 1.8T high-flow cat from CTS Turbo. Then I took the test pipe that I didn't need had my friend make it into the 3" downpipe that I needed. i wanted to keep the flanges, but it didn't line up well for that. So we hacked the flanges off and welded it right to the cat outlet so it's all 1 piece. A small bend of random exhaust pipe + a vibrant TurboFlex flex pipe and its all set.

EDIT: For the record, I am not recommending anybody do what I'm showing here. I didn't do this for performance, I did it because I'm super cheap, and the alternative cheap option was terrible. The alternative being a horrible quality downpipe from the parts store, like Walker or Bosal, that will be more restrictive than even the OEM piece and it will rust out super quick. So the stainless test pipe I already had was a decent option to patch this together, and it let me use a high quality stainless flex pipe (vibrant turboflex).

A 3" test pipe bolts up to the stock exhaust, you don't NEED a 3 inch next section of exhaust. The test pipe IS the down pipe since its the first part of the exhaust out of the turbo.

    - Test pipes are the same across the board.
    - I use Quattro downpipes on my Fronttrak no issues, I can not speak for the bottom hanger being different, as I'm more custom beyond that...aka not even using a stock hanger system of any type. Even if the hanger system is a little off, there's a million transmission bungs/mounting locations to union up/rubber bushing brace/spring brace the downpipe flange off the dp to any part of the car, aka not a big deal.
    - However beyond the downpipe/past the downpipe you can not use a quattro exhaust kit, worthless.
    - Too bad you're in another country, as selling a full APR stainless Fronttrak exhaust kit.

    But lastly:

Under no circumstances do you want anything more than a 2.5" test pipe, or cat back exhaust, you'll be slower. You need to cap off at 2.5".

Can confirm the lower hanger not working, but otherwise fine. I got a Milltek quattro downpipe and had a bracket fabbed for the stock hanger
