Help with sale price on RS7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Although I'm sad about it, I'm thinking about selling my RS7. I looked on Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds.com to get an estimate on sale price and they don't even have my exact car listed! I guess since it's so new (2017 model year) and the Performance version which wasn't even listed on their websites.

Please help me determine a fair sale price -- Obviously I'm going to lose a lot in 1st year depreciation - I know that. But I just don't know how much to ask.
I'm trying to get help with the sales price before I post it in the classifieds section.

    HERE IS THE INFO:
For Sale: 2017 RS7 Performance, Nardo Gray (Original MSRP $138,425)

I think your price is more than fair, but I'd put the stock wheels back on and sell the aftermarket wheels on here.

If you still have OEM exhaust, I would also put that back on and sell the Akrapovic system.

You'll net more if you sell the aftermarket pieces separately. The extras never bump up the value of the car as much as they'll get on their own.

Help with sale price on RS7

Do you think the price mentioned above is right, with stock wheels ?

I don't still have the stock exhaust so I'd like to leave the Akrapovic on. I don't know why someone wanting an RS7 would not want the Akrapovic. It's not loud or obnoxious at all, it just sounds awesome.

To clarify, I was including everything at that price - not trying to charge more for the add-on items.

To be totally honest, I would be very surprised if you got over $100k for that car. Not in anyway saying it's not worth it but just not likely to happen (would take the perfect buyer). There are quite a few used RS7s out there (although not P models) under $90k. Informed used market buyers simply will not see the advantage of paying the extra money for that model. Please do not take this as a diss on anyone who purchased this edition of the RS7. I just know the used market better than most. I would expect to lose no less than $30k to $40k on the original purchase price of the car. That being said, it never hurts to start at your valuation and work it from there. You never know, someone could walk up and pay that.

With such a short time with the car, I am compelled to ask why you are selling so soon? Surely you would know that you would take a deep bath bailing so soon? Again not trying to flame... Just curious.

You did all that and you didn't tune it... WTF!

Like the others, you'll do better selling the aftermarket bits a-la-carte.

I agree with you on the Akrapovic--I have it factory-installed on my 2017 Performance and it sounds great.

In your shoes, I'd attack it from two angles: post it on cars.com and find a reputable dealer to sell it on consignment for you.

Having just picked one up myself, I might well have paid what you're asking with these aftermarket options once I established credibility in you and the vehicle... but I'd have been taking a risk and I'd have known it. I'd have been a lot more willing to do so buying it from a dealer hence the consignment suggestion.

@3rdBNCC - Yeah - I know I'll lose a lot if I sell it. As to why I might sell - it's just that I paid cash for the car and now I find myself wishing I had that money for investments and other things. I love the car but it's preventing me (financially) from doing some other things that I'm interested in. Now I kind of wish I would have leased it and kept my cash. Anyway it won't be the first time I've thrown away lots of money ha ha. Wish I would learn. . .

As to the price - I don't think you can find a model year 2017 under $90k. The ones I've seen are 2014-15. Anyway thanks for your input.

For the record I never said specifically 17 models (there just aren't many people that sell that quick). I simply said there are many used RS7s out there for $90k or under and some with similar mileage to yours. That would include a few 16s. Given the choice between a $90k 16 and $120k 17? Many will go the former.

I am with many others on their suggestions for getting the most out of what you put into the car. The aftermarket stuff will rarely pull any extra cash into the equation unless you sell them separately. Again, informed buyers know this. Consignment can be a decent method for selling, especially if you are in no hurry to get the deal done and can stomach the fees. A private sell is obviously preferred for getting the maximum for your car. Seeing that you paid cash for the car, you should have some flexibility and try to wait it out for the "perfect" buyer. You could very well get close to what you are looking for. Demographics play a big part.

Good luck my friend. Sad to see you letting go of that car so quickly.

Why not borrow against the car at 2 or 3 percent and use that money for your investments? If you like the car that might be the better way of taking a bath. Same place you would have been if you had financed (and I can always find a better use for cash than avoiding a 2% car note).

Yah I'm with the finance part.... what car could you possibly get now that you've driven this car for much less than what you will get for this ?

Also if you like to invest and have cash on hand why would you use it all on a car? sounds kind of funny on my end... But good luck on the sale.

By the way i bought myused 2016 Audi s8 plus with 2500 miles for about $100k with cpo to give you a general idea.... my car msrp was $138k also with all the options.

You could possibly get what you are asking for with the options on your car but you would seriously have to get lucky and find that perfect buyer.

I hate for you to feel that way but you are in a bit of a pickle and some of what you disclosed in your opening post does sound a little odd But like Don said earlier (3rdBNCC), you're likely going to take a bath unless you find the exact right guy who wants just what you have. As a point of reference, I bought my 2016 (Prestige, not Performance) in January, the previous owner had it for about 10 months and put 14k miles on it, had some of what you do on yours but the dealer removed that all and put it back stock (i.e. radar detector removed, tint removed, but Suntek full front wrap and CQ finest obviously stayed). My car stickered at $124k and sold for $32k less than that- and I bought mine in D.C. area which is probably a better market for cars like ours than Provo. So if I were to give assistance strictly on what you should ask for the car, I would start at something around that figure below the sticker, say $110k and be prepared to go closer to $100k when it all shakes out. Also & FWIW, I'd bet you can get someone to work with you on swapping the exhaust around, that Akrapovic will still sell for $5500+ here used and the wheels and tires I'd definitely sell separate just to pair your losses. Good luck man, hope it all works out.

Your best bet is to find someone looking to buy a 'new' RS7 and convince them that the mods you've done to the car outweighs them needing a brand new car, and is worth the $120k asking price. Honestly, if I was in the market and looking at a brand new RS7 I would roll the dice and offer you $112-115k for yours with the mods, that to me is what the 5,200miles depreciation would be. Are you friendly with the Audi dealer that you bought the car from? They might be willing to work out a good deal with you if you lease another car from them...

    +1.

If I were in the market for your car (wish I was!) I would come in with a lower offer of $100K but likely end up willing to pay $110-$115K.

Great news👍, I don't think taking a 30K loos is worth it. There was a 2017 white RS7 performance with approx 3k for sale at $109000 and I think it sold around $106000 but it did not have all the mods you have on your car. If you can just keep it and enjoy the beast.
