Will 295s fit on 2017 RS7 Performance stock wheels

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Per the subject, I'm trying to ascertain whether Michelin PSS 295s will fit on my factory wheels. I've tried to determine the rim width online but with little success. I reverted to measuring an approx. rim width from one of the wheels and it leads me to believe the rim width is somewhere between 9" and 10". For 295, 10.5" would be needed (I think).

Does anyone know for sure either what these wheels will take or what the rim width actually is?

If it helps, these are my current wheels riding 275/35/21s all around stock:

    Thanks!

Thanks. I found something similar which somewhat motivated my question. I've been working on the basis that my rim width is 10.5" but I stumbled across an article that lead me to believe that's not the case for these new 2017 rims. Having dug around online for a while, I could turn nothing up regarding these new rim's dimensions... so I tried to measure it and there's no way the rim width is 10.5". Given that I've already ordered 4 x 295/25/21 MPSSs from Tirerack, it seemed prudent (nay, urgent :-) to find out for sure.

    A few places to look:

    1. Window sticker, will sometimes show wheel specs
    2. Owners manual will often show the specs
    3. The wheels themselves are usually stamped with specs on the backside somewhere.

My stock 21" wheels are 21x9 with 275/30/21 tires. A 295, especially the MPSS would be too much IMO. The MPSS tires are beefier than the typical stock Conti tires Audi uses. I may run those 295s on my new wheels that are 10.5 after the contis need replacing.

Thanks. I started with the window sticker but no luck there. The owner's manual was a similar story, it seems Audi don't produce model-specific manual variations so it has wheel specs for A7s/S7/RS7s and, worse, none of it references these new 2017 wheels.

I haven't tried to get to the backside of the wheels but I did measure the width of the mounted tire. These Contis don't protrude much beyond the rim so I used their mounted width as a guide and it's way too narrow for 295s... sigh.

Given that stock RS7 (non-performance) rims are 9" and tires are 275 that handy chart is incorrect.

However, as mentioned the pss are a different profile and will probably be too large for your stock performance rims unless they are at least 10" wide imo.

Yeah, agreed, it's not perfect. The one I use does indicate that 9" rims will hold 275s at a push but your point still stands... I need to re-think my plans.

i personally dont think it woul dwork out too well, especially if there are any plan to lower it....with my 21x10.5 rims and stock tires, there are some issues up front with clearance as is.

thats too much tire for a 9" wheel, especially going to a 25 profile which mean the section width and tread width are near identical

I was under the impression that 295/25/21 was used on the stock wheels by a ton of members. I actually am picking my car up tomorrow with that size tire on my stock blade style wheels. I'll report back.

I'm not sure it can't be done, I just wouldn't think it's recommended- the min wheel width recommended by Michelin for that size is 10", I'd think you'll be crowning the tire pretty badly on a 9" wheel and probably not get the best wear or performance from them on that size wheel.

Its also important to note. I believe the stock 275 is an average all season tire, however not completely sure. The Michelin PSS is a high performance summer tire. I think many people make the mistake in thinking an all season tread and summer tire tread are the same size, however it is well known the PSS has a very wide tread pattern. In reality with the stock 9 inch wheel it would have a 265 or even a 255 with a performance summer tire. Due to this a 295 PSS is going to be HUGE on the stock wheel, that's assuming it would fit on the wheel at all.

Check out the rubber profile of pss vs stock contis. Left pss, very flat profile vs the rounded one for the conti's.

Additionally, check out the fitment of the 295/25/21PSS on a 10.5" rim! No way a 9" wide rim will work properly imho.

The stock wheels on my car are 9"--there's no way I'm gonna try and wedge a 295 on that. Even 275 defies most common guidance. New wheels <-> skinny tires == new wheels it is then.

No mistake here at least--I've had the MPSSs on my past 5 BMW M-cars and I love 'em. The Contis that came with my car are summer performance but as noted in another post, their profile differs wildly; I'm not a fan of their traction so far either.. The MPSSs also have a fantastic rim protector which artificially increases the stature of the tire/car when viewed from the rear (and stops my wife from curbing my rims, too, which is always a bonus).

Links and vcds. No rubbing but maybe i'm not as slammed as you but i think i'm pretty low!

I think the reason for your rubbing though is that 285/30 has a much bigger sidewall height than 295/25(86mm vs 74mm) and as a result has quite a bit bigger overall tire diameter than mine. (ie., 681mm vs 705mm = 24mm or 2.4cm overall larger diameter)

I have to say these bathurst rims with 295/25 rubber are friggin perfect, i'm glad i spent months investigating the options out there.
