Water running sound when AC on?

Ok so looked into TSB's for this issue but couldn't find anything. Is there a fix for the AC noise which sounds like it's right behind the dash. Sounds like water flowing until you shut off AC so I guess it something to do with that.

That drives me crazy about this car. I've taken it to the dealer twice for this and both times they tell me normal operation. I call BS, but can't get them to do anything about it.

It sounds like a waterfall behind the dash. Can't be normal as no other car I have ever owned or owned or been in does this.

Wow!!!! Glad I'm not the only one going crazy. Turned AC on last night thought the Atlantic Ocean was going to come rushing out of my vents.

My current S6 does this, and so did two B8.5 S4's that I had previously. Pretty certain this is normal operation.

If you have a Prestige model, it's the ambient noise feature..defaults to waterfall, but you can select rainstorm, birds, or "sensual" sounds from the hidden menu.

i've had this issue before and there is TSB for it, but dealer normally won't do anything until you complain enough.

i've complained this issue over and over again (my last 3 dealer visits) and they finally decide to fix it during my last visit (Last Sept).

Mine does the same, I have the European model. It's not very loud, usually I don't notice when the engine is running. The dealer also noticed this "waterfall" feature when I bought the car and they did a full review. After a closer inspection of the AC system they told me that everything is working properly.

that's pretty bad, you are sitting in traffic and listening to running water - so unconsciously you want to pee and no way out!

It's definitely not a sloshing sound. It's like others have said, a waterfall sound. It almost sounds like someone left the faucet on. I hear this sound all the time but never thought it was the ac. I thought it was the cooling system

Yeah, my 2012 3.0 A6 did the same thing. The dealer checked everything and found nothing wrong and I had to live with it. However, I haven't noticed it on the 2014 3.0 A6 yet.

I have this sound too. When you really pay attention and listen in a quiet environment, I think it's​ actually the sound​ of the blower fan/ motor rattling lightly , maybe bearing related.

I don't hear the waterfall, but I do hear the AC fan making a very faint clicking sound, it varies with fan speed. It has a sound like a very loud set of DC motor brushes.

Sounds like a click on the video, but that's the waterfall sound. This can't be normal. No car I've ever had has made that sound. Not even the beaters I had in my young days..

my dealer replaced the followings (out of good well, so I am not sure if other dealers will be willing to do it, but you can give it a shot).

TSB 2044717, they replace the low side A/C Line with balance weight, flush the A/C compressor, replace all O-rings, recharge the A/C System.

I did this exactly not too long ago at my local dealer, car is out of warranty, but I paid for the TSB work, and they charged be about $100 for the labor and $300 for parts (hose + weight)

My noise was exactly like in the video above, but louder. Now with the new hose + weight, I can just barely hear it...and only sometimes, so 90% solved and it cannot get better than this unfortunately

P.S you could likely just put the new weight on your old existing hose and get the same result, everything looks identical to me (no other disassembly required or recharging the system, just tak on the weight)....In fact, the hose I bought had a weight already on it, so I did not use the $100 OEM weight I bought

(PM me if anyone wants it for $80 shipped, brand new, to resolve this issue).

Never heard of such a problem so I can just guess but I think, The pipe that removes the Water from the condener must be clogged If so than you're AC is gonna get ruined if you don't get it fixed soon..

Does anyone notice this sound when outside the car? In the garage when the car is first started it sounds like water is flowing/dripping onto the floor.

Funny, I've never heard any kind of water inside or outside my car. I guess its hard to with the combination of non resonated exhaust while outside and my extra sub inside. Oh well....

I raised the issue with my dealer whilst under warranty. They confirmed the issue but stated that the fix was a dash out job so I decided I would rather deal with the fairly minor annoyance of the noise than risk introducing damage to dash/trim or other squeaks and rattles caused by the removal of the dash.

I should add that this was in my C7 S6. Never had the issue in my C7.5 RS6.

I had this in my b8.5 s4 and a little in my c7 tdi a6. It’s air in the lines. They need to bleed the system. Lmk if that does the trick!

My shop foreman once told me this usually means youre low on freon.only certain models do it. Our a6s being one of them

I may have this on my car as well.

i hear a slight chirping/clicking sound when the fan is on 1 or 2. i always though it was the blower fan slightly off balance, and when the fan speed is faster it balances itself out...which is why it does away. it is such a subtle noise that i can only hear it when stopped, without any music or talking. it happens regardless if the AC is on or just the heat/fan.

i do not heat a water sloshing sound in my dashboard....which would usually be attributed to air in the coolant system.

My car has this issue also had it befor I did my heat exchanger and after. I dunno what it is never bothered me rushing water like a stream.

Same here, 2015 S5 Cabrio. The TSB only specifically mentions the A6 and A7. I'm pretty sure the parts are common across all models. Major fail not to include all models or making this voluntary recall. Clearly, something was done incorrectly at the factory (air in the line boiling the freon?)

As others have pointed out, the job is fairly invasive. There are many disturbing mentions in the TSB. "if out of warranty, this is informational only"; "don't lose the sleeves or engine/component failure can occur"; "if failure occurs as a result of this repair, it's not covered". Da fuh?
