Replacing Foglight Grille - Big Mistake!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,

I got the black chrome fog light grille from ebay, see link below. I followed some YouTube clip removed the OEM fog light grille using a plier and insert a L hex wrench key into the hole and pulled the grille off. Now I can't even put the grille back on. Looking at the OEM piece and I believe there were two clips broke off from the pull. Now what? A new bumper for my 2010 A4? I messed up this thing.

I don't have this particular grill but have removed/installed others. The clips can be hard to engage in the bumper because of the flex when you push the grill. particularly at the bottom. You can try pulling back part of the wheel well liner and reaching in to aid snapping them into place. With a flashlight , you will be able to see the issue where the clips engage.

I put two screws in and put them in place. It is fixed! I definitely broke the taps and clips when I pulled the grille out. I saw small plastic pieces on the floor. Why can't design this foglight grille more mod friendly?!

Does your engine bay get a lot dirtier with those grilles? Do you worry about driving through heavy rain and getting a bunch of water in there?

I recently installed those grilles and they worry me a bit. They do look good tho.

Does the B8 have a different procedure compared to the B8.5? I can't imagine how anycould could possibly break them on the B8.5.

LMK if you want to sell those. I know they aren't very expensive on ebay, but they have been very low on my priority list.

The mesh looking foglight grille is not the real mesh. Those are solid piece. So there will not water or dirt get in easily. However, since those grilles are not perfect fit on my car. The water and dirt will get in through the gaps. I noticed the driver side grille is smaller than the one on the passenger side because I noticed the gap is bigger. :(

And I was misled by the video clips on YouTube. People claims there is no clips or tabs hold the foglight grilles to our B8 A4. But I did have to break the tabs and clips in order to remove the old foglight grille from the front. Otherwise, I would need to go through the wheel well to get tho the back of the foglight grille which it will be a much bigger job.

+1 I ordered similar grilles off eBay and used double stick originally but they wouldn't stay in. I drilled into the grille and ended up cracking them in the process (used too large of a drill bit), so I put back the stock grilles. I'll probably tackle it again if I decide to change to a RS4 style grille. As of now I'm happy with my stock dipped grill and ECS black matte plate delete (that I bought on clearance for $29)

There are 2 different models. The ones with chrome line are solid pieces. The ones pictured above are mesh with many holes for water and dirt to enter. Trust me, I own them.

I installed the ones with chrome rings last weekend. I had to take the bumper off because it was not as easy as the OEM one to clip on.
Had to brake off the plastic flat to hold the fog light and shaved a little bit of the bumper to allow the clips to go on.
