Finding ECU PIN with Can+ K Commander

    Hello everyone,

I am trying to swap back to a stock ECU from my tuned one. Once I swapped it the dash said safe and then I remembered the immobilizer issue. So I need to find the 4 digit pin for the ECU's, I have read that this is done by using can+ K Commander following this guide. (https://sites.google.com/site/imnuts/)

I have VCDS and a cable, my VCDS works perfectly fine, I have set it to run in dumb mode and everything. I am trying to use K Commander version 2.5 like everyone suggest, my problem is that I can not connect to the ECU to read anything. It tells me that it cannot connect to the ecu after like 3 tries...I have no clue what I am doing wrong and I am done trying to figure out myself because I have gotten nowhere!

The only possible issue I could see is that in VCDS my I have USB selected instead of any of the COM's and I think the Commander needs to use a COM port but I have no clue how I would go about changing that USB to a COM?

I think you need the VCP driver's to use the VCDS cable with non VCDS apps

Alright, I actually figured it out, I had a 40 amp fuse that sits under the ECU that is blown. Sadly for me after going through imnuts steps for a used ECU my car still sits at "SAFE" and beeps and flashed the brake light...

Is the stock ECU your original ECU, or one from a different car?
Is the tuned ECU your original ECU, or one from a different car?

reading the immo code from the ECU won't help if it doesn't match the cluster. if neither of them match you'll have to read it from the cluster.

I have a stage 1+ immo defeated ecu in the car now, no problems, trying to install a used ECU...so I just realized the pin from my tuned ecu does nothing...how the hell do I pull the pin from the cluster.

Okay I think I see how to pull the cluster pin put what choice do I choose from the drop down when it comes to cluster type..

Edit, looks like both the options I could use do not read anything...ecu still can be read but not the cluster?

Pretty sure vag can commander will brick the cluster so don't piddle with it too much

search around on here for "vag eeprom programmer 1.19", that's the tool you need as I understand it. Haven't tried it myself.. afraid to brick it hah

Do the IMMO id of your ECU and cluster match? If not your ECU and cluster are not paired.
(IMMO ID is the numbers after the VIN when viewing the Engine or Instruments module in VCDS)

Follow this to pull your cluster SKC.

If you have the ECU SKC you can then pair them (it is a lot easier to make the ECU match your cluster).

Or even easier is to turn IMMO off on the ECU (requires boot mode...not hard but needs a special cable).

I am currently in bed so I can't check if they match but I do know I took the cluster skc and used it as the pin for the ECU, it has to be correct because it doesn't say safe anymore and it runs, just don't get why my parking light is flashing and beeping on only this ecu.

Alright, update, so I guess my lights are flashing because this ECU was out of an automatic car, I can't find anything on how to change the ecu to manual...
