    150$ diagnostics fee charge????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Am I crazy about arguing that I was charged 150 for a diagnostic fee because a rock was stuck in the backplate and the rotor? I Left work last night and my car started making an incredible loud squeal while I was driving the whole ride home. They removed a Rock this morning from the backside of the rotor. My car is still under factory warranty. Should I press the issue with audi or does it seem fair to you guys.

Warranty matters not. Pay it and move on with your life.

Unfortunately since it's not warranty work they can't bill that to Audi of America and the techs need to still get paid .. I have Audi Care and I had to pay out of pocket for non service work

I just wish he would have told me beforehand. I thought it was a rock I could have just removed myself. I expected better customer service from an Audi dealership. Oh well.

Just be happy it's fixed and it didn't truly mess anything up.

As long as they treated you kindly I don't see how you can expect more. It's SOP.

Yup. If it was a warranty issue, then they would pass on the diagnostic and repair cost to Audi. Since not a warranty issue, they charge you.

My experience has been that they usually tell you that up front.

If it was a private garage with ethics, they kindly would have told you there is nothing to worry about and it was just a rock that got lodged. No problem sir, no charge. It only took us 15 seconds to take it out. We appreciate your business next time you come in and appreciate any kindly worded referrals.
    .....

But... it's Audi. In fairness it probably took their clueless tech 2 hours to figure out what it was and another 2 hours to initiate guided fault finding to help them figure out what to do about it. Then another 15 minutes or so to scratch your fender and curb your wheels. So if you look at it that way you got a great deal.

Same all around. Warranty work is for something that was designed not to fail and fails under normal usage. Just like the 10,000 posts on Oil consumption and everyone fighting Audi to cover. You drive your car into the river and foul up all the electronics, that's not Audi's fault...just like a rock that kicks up between your rotor and dust shield. You should be singing songs it was that cheap and they were honest in what it was and not some rock that chewed up a wheel bearing or drive shaft and charged you out of pocket. Every post I read usually nobody gets out of a dealer for less than $500. Consider yourself lucky.

Lol great way to look at it I guess. I just have had much better experiences and my Chrysler dealer and thought Audi a high end dealer would be at least the same if not better. Oh well I guess it's me. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. It was never about he $ as much as it was about principle. Like you had said prob took 10 mins to fix I figured they would have just said have a nice day we got you.

Never had an issue with any other vehicle I've owned, but this car loves to get rocks caught in the brakes. The first time I noticed I was screeching down the road I panicked, pulled over, called my brother. As soon I put it in reverse, rock shot out. Now every time it happens, reverse instantly fixes it.

This is the second time that it had happened as well. First time it worked itself out. I pulled into my driveway in reverse around 1am and thought I woke my whole house up. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I also have been driving for 18 years never happened to any other car

This was a very common issue with the first model year of the M4. I think it was directly related to the spacing between the shield and the rotor.

My SA tells me up front about any charges before they work on the car. I would consider it a courtesy, however, I've been to plenty of places where they don't forewarn you. Live and learn, I guess. If a shop doesn't outright tell me, I make sure to ask questions ahead of time these days. I've think all of us have been hit with surprise fees/costs at least one point in our life.

This. Especially when they tell you the reasoning why and go ahead and fix it.

It's like mofo, I never authorized you to work on the car past diagnostics. I can pull a rock out on my own.

Just be thankful they didn't cut out your dust cover with snips to get the rock out.

That's why they are playing him on the diagnostic charge and not calling it labor that way they can charge without authorization
