    2012 2.0t burning oil

I spend most of my time on the allroad page as I have a 05 allroad. But my new concern is my '12 q5 2.0t. It has approx 50k on it and has started burning oil. I lose about a quart per 4,000 miles or so. I took it to the dealership and they tell me that anything less than a quart per 1,000 miles is within Audi spec. Anyone have any expirence with this? Seems like a lot of oil to burn it a newer car. My allroad doesn't even leak that much oil. I was behind my wife the other day and noticed a puff of smoke everytime she would accelerate. Wondering if there's something that can be done. Thanks in advance

Sounds like the typical oil consumption issues found on B8 2.0t engines.. Just keep fighting it and they will re ring your pistons... Unless you are tuned then you are SOL...

No mods. All stock. My wife took it in and Audi said it was within spec. To me a quart in 4K is ridiculous. Now with the puffs of smoke on acceleration has me worried. I'm just wondering if I should keep pushing the issue and if Audi will cover it.

Don't hold your breath... Even here in the socialist republic of Cali, with all is emissions regs, dealer wouldn't do crap unless consumption was more than a quart in 1-2k miles.... Had that POS A4 in so many times.... Gave in and traded it in for anything other than a 2.0T.

The 1.8 in my TT only used about a half quart in 10K even after 170K HARD miles on the odometer so I, like you, think it is ridiculous to burn so much on an engine with only 50K on the clock...

    Good luck.

They told me the same thing.
Within a month, my engine blew up.

Seems like the way to go unless out of warranty... Hey OP do you still have a warranty or CPO of some sort?

IIRC, i had stage 1 of the oil consumption tsb (PCV/ECU update) when consuming about 1qt/6k mi on my previous B8 A4. No real change after stage 1 and the dealership went ahead with the stage 2 piston ring replacement without question. From my experience, dealership and relationship with the service dept. probably still makes some difference.

Thought this was limited to 2011 or older Q5's - anyone have repairs covered by the dealership?

I recently talked to our Dealership about this. Audi has been replacing the engine if it is the piston rings

Ill try and keep this brief. I own a 2012 Q5 2.0 PP with approx 115000 miles The month I paid it off (last dec) the car began burning oil at a very fast rate. My car was just over the extended warranty I purchased also. When I took in the car for a small recall they informed me there was another recall. Some valve don't remember what its called but I knew through research of the oil burning it was part of the oil consumption test. I hoped it would fix the problem to no avail. Was informed they couldn't do anything. Spoke with everyone until I reached the GM. I explained and had to be THAT costumer you don't want to talk too. The GM spoke with Audi corp and agreed to do and pay for the oil consumption test. It failed. They agreed to replace the pistons and rings at no cost to me which I was very grateful BUT it did not fix the problem. My wife has since driven 5000 miles and is on her third top off. She is burning approx 1100 miles per qt. I just emailed the corp rep helping me and informed them the problem was not fixed. Their work has 12000 or 1 yr warranty. Standing by to hear what the next step is. Sounds like this problem extends into the 2012 2.0s and not just the 2011 and older.
Does anyone have this issue? Also wondering what the next step will be.

1 qt burning per 1000 miles will fail the oil consumption test
OP stated 1 qt per 4000 miles I bet it will be consider as "normal" as per manufacture spec

I have 2 tuned RS6s out in the garage.

They use zero oil between 10k change points

    I have owned 6 RS6s

None of them used any oil

I now have added a 03 S8 to the stable. Again uses no oil.

Our 14 SQ5 puffs blue smoke on acceleration w 36k easy hwy miles.

Not looking good for newer Audi engines

The dealer is only denying any repairs or further inspection because you've stated that your vehicle is losing a quart every 4K miles. I say wait a few weeks and go back there and say the mileage has dropped to about 1K miles per quart. Have them perform the oil consumption test and see where they go from there. There is inherently an issue with that 2.0 engine and stealerships would rather make money directly from you versus reimbursement from AOA. Depends on how friendly the dealership is with working with you.

50 to 70k throwaway cars from AoA. I guess that's what it comes down to in this environment

I predict our 14 SQ5 to have future oil consumption problems. I use the best fuels, oils and additive packages and drive my cars with care.

I don't accept 1qt/1000 or 1qt/4000 for that matter. Build better engines for this 60k platform

Wife's 09 A4 having this problem. They said we're 8 years out of warranty but good grace they'll fix it for half. -_-
