    As a recap...i bought a 2008 A4 2.0T S-Line Titanium for $1k from a friend, knowing it had issues.

    -On with the update-
Off the bat i tore apart this forum and found common problems and i came to the conclusion that i shouldn't be driving the car until i got a few things fixed. I ordered 2 full kits--the timing/serp and cam chain. I wanted to do an overhaul tune up to make certain i knew they were changed. Those parts finally arrived last friday and i had the car delivered with a mechanic friend who owns a 2.0T VW gti. Not exactly the same but he said hes done the job before. Im confident he can get the job done and it was my most affordable route. I figured if were opening up the car, we might as well get as many things changed so i bought every knick knack recommend when doing the kits.

    Oil Leak!
So the bad news is i found the oil leak. I had a car wash friend clean the engine bay and then kept track of where the oil was coming from. I think i found the spot but have zero idea whats failing. Ive taken pictures of what appears to be a small puddle of oil thats accumulated while sitting in my driveway. Its under the middle right half of the engine. SEE PICTURE. Its really not that big of a spill and the car has always been kept on close watch as for as oil changes. Any ideas? id like to take care of it along with the other job so i have the tune up on hold for now. Thanks!

That's where the oil filter housing/oil cooler is, the gaskets and housing themselves very commonly fail, especially if the pcv system is bad (the pressure starts looking for an out)

My mothers is leaking in the exact same spot. There's a diy on how to replace it and it suggest pulling the intake manifold, if you do that then you should do a carbon clean while in there, and you should have replacement injector gaskets on hand

Also while the injectors are out some members get them tested, and cleaned (professionally)

Well, speaking from my experience with a high mileage 2.0 FSI engine, (same as yours) I'll bet you theres a 95% chance that your oil filter housing has either warped (its plastic) or the rubber gaskets has failed.

I had the same leak your experiencing here, diagnosed it to the oil filter housing, replaced it with an OEM unit and haven't had any issues since.
    Link to filter housing: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...ly/06f115397j/

Now, I didn't want to chance it myself, but like I said above, it could be that the seals has failed and that's all you need to replace, but ill leave that call up to you.

If I was you, and replacing the oil filter housing, I would also replace the Oil pressure switch as well. You'll need to verify your VIN before purchasing but here's a reference:

BTW, hell of a find on a 08 Ti in Ibis White for $1,000.

Hey man, good luck with the car. While youre checking things, look over the fuel lines. Mine had a very small crack that would only leak under load, and was impossible to find. Same with a few air lines, check those for cracks, especially the bottoms. Sometimes oil will pool and sit there, and weaken/rot the hoses.
Also, check your DV, as the old version will leak and give the car problems, because it thinks it has stored boost, but it doesn't.

Thank you! i suspected that was the culprit and now im even more certain. I new the gaskets gave out i just didnt know about the housing. Is there any way to make certain the housing is busted?what too look for? i dont mind doing the gaskets but I dont want to drop another $200 if it still has some life in it. Im a fan of europarts so ill def be going through them.

Im really trying here and this is exactly what im looking for. I dont mind doing my research but i need a push in the right direction. Im not sure which lines youre talking about but ill definitely find out and have them inspected. I was worried the oil leak might have messed with anything fragile so i think i need to start checking for rotten hoses and compromised plastic. Sorry DV? diverter valve? havent come across anything on it, any symptoms to look for?

    Thanks for the support everyone.

Its a common failure for the housings to warp. Id say 99% of the time gaskets by themselves are not going to solve your leak problem. It really shows after 100k miles and usually notice it leaking in the colder winter months. But its your car, your call. If it was my car Id just the housing unit and be done with it.

I was afraid youd say that but also a little glad. Im just going to go ahead and order it. Theres no need in leaving it out and having to jump back to it later. I didnt think it would be warped and that common of a failure.
Is there anything i should be buying with it? Besides for the housing and gaskets. I know someone already mentioned it, but i want to be sure.

In my own experience Ied a few gasket only repairs and the leak came back within a year for a few cheap friends that sold the car to other cheap friends.......
When I out the housings I usually will buy oil and coolant and have it on hand. You will lose some when you disconnect it from the block.

DV is diverter valve. There are two kinds, one is a diaphragm type, and the other is an upgraded piston/plunger type. The second is what you want, reason being the diaphragm will tear and leak boost pressure. There is a great tutorial here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...l-Installation
If you already have the piston type, good. If not, get one, theyre pretty cheap, under 50 bucks if I recall. If you want to test the hoses for boost leaks, one of my favorite ways is the tennis ball method. To copy a post I previously made, "You put a tennis ball with two holes in it, opposite each other, in the intake hose. Clamp it in there so you have a good seal, and connect an air compressor to the hole facing you. Pressurize the system to about 20 psi, no more than 30, and look for leaks. You can combine this with the soap and water spray to see if something bubbles, too. You can normally hear it right off the bat, but run your fingers along the air hoses to feel/hear it. You'll probably narrow it down fairly quickly. If not, a lot of shops can do just about the same thing but with a special smoke machine, so it is more visible."

    Good luck.

Edit: Symptoms of the DV being bad is just generally boost leak and lots of boost lag. The diverter valve does exactly that, it diverts airflow. When your turbo builds boost, but the car no longer needs it, a turbo with a waste gate would just spit the air back out into the atmosphere. But a diverter valve re-routs it back into the system for quick use, so you dont have to wait for the turbo to spool up to full pressure again. The computer knows this, too, and expects pressure to be there. However, when it isnt, it will bog you down some, add lag, and perform in an overall sub-par way.

For the oil leak you can try and get to the 4 bolts that hold the oil cooler and make sure they are nice and tight. I had a major leak coming from that area and had purchased and planned to do the housing and cooler gasket change. I was dreading doing the job because it is a PIA so just for kicks I decided to check the bolts. Sure enough, the bottom 2 were loose. Tightened all 4 and I have been leak free for 5k mils now. Took 20 minutes........

My valve cover was like that... atleast it wouldn't have been hard but any time I went over 4K I had a puddle in one of the bolts and it leaked oil all down the side so I kept thinking that the pcv was bad blew the seal that other shit could be damaged etc

Turns out that half the screws were loose, tightened em up and it was good ever since

I'm gonna try this on the oil cooler leak on the other A4, that'd be sweet! But it still needs carbon cleaning anyways lol
