    Which Shop/Repair Manual?

Bentley is the name I see most, but I came across a post at audiforums.com (http://www.audiforums.com/forum/gene...s-rant-181236/) that talks about the poor quality of the software and that there is no diagnostics procedures or routine stuff (little things like plugs), and mostly just parts swaps. The poster recommended http://alldatadiy.com/ as a great source, but I've never heard it mentioned on any Audi forums previously.

I'm also seeing manuals now from Haynes and Chiltons, though not sure their completeness or quality.

So: what's the verdict on these sources? Is alldatadiy a legit, comprehensive service? How do the Haynes/Chiltons/Bentley manuals compare?

Well ... everyone knows which manual I use. There is no need to close our eyes to information that is available.
I also have the Chilton-Hayes manual for the B6 as well as the Bentley print and DVD editions. The Bentley print version is far better and is almost 4x bigger and heavier too.
The alldatadiy.com site is typical of the new way of distributing documentation. All access, everywhere, anytime with nothing to hold onto but your flatter wallet.

Seriously though it seems like a really good way to get car maintenance information.

I use three sources of information. Bentley, Hayes amd Google. Each one has its own distinct advantages.

I also use the a haynes/chilton manual and is good for most things, but its based around a 1.8 tear down and not a 3.0. Other than than it covers most of the things i need it for(basic maintenance, just did the brakes using it in fact). then for things like timing belt or other esoteric issues, i come here and search extensively and post if i cant find anything and as a truly last resort, use the google. So far nothing i havent been able to fix. except for a pesky dipped headlight error...

Why does the B6 Bentley kind of suck? It's not very thorough. Thankfully I have a Bentley for an 02 Passat. A lot of the stuff is the same and they go into way more detail in that one. Much better parts diagrams with torque values in the Passat book.

I have a Haynes manual for my 3.0, which is decent overall for standard things. I also have subscriptions on AllDataDIY.com for all my cars and you can them pretty cheap. I think I paid about 10 bucks a year for each vehicle and you can find coupon codes online for discounts.

alldatadiy sucks hard. Finding information can be very counter-intuitive most times.

Yeah the Bentley for my old Audi seemed a lot more thorough. I guess it was a simpler car, too. (But still had more pages, and electrical was it's own book).

Then again we had some sort of Bentley book for w124 Merc and it was total shit. Hardly any info, more of a user's manual than a service manual.
