Anyone had to replace a Turbo Charger?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My wifes A4 avant threw a check engine light and when I ran the fault code it came back with "Boost Pressure Regulation". At the dealer now for diagnosis but was told if the turbo charger is bad the replacement cost is around $2,600!!

Is it possible its just a bad hose or some other component? Or is total replacement the standard protocol?

If its still being diagnosed for a boost related fault code it could be half a dozen different things, from a hose to a sensor to something on the turbo unit itself. The B8 turbo/wastegate/manifold is a single unit so if anything is wrong in those areas they'll want to replace the whole thing.

$2600 is the dealer hiked price on both parts and labor. You can get a new turbo for around $700 and have it installed for a few hours labor.

Yes unfortunately they said the waste gate was shot so whole turbo needs replacing. They have a $1,000 up charge on the part so I bought that separate new.

Dealer replaced the turbo on my 2012 A4 at 94k miles and it was covered under the CPO warranty.

My 2008 ALSO had a turbo CPO'd at 97K miles.

Anyone had to replace a Turbo Charger?

I just got my turbo replaced about a month ago. Had just bought the car too, it was a real bummer. Mine had wastegate problems too, and it ended up costing around $2000-2100 i think..? I did it at a local mechanics shop in my area. But trust me- if you feel like you have bad turbo lag, it will go away (for the most part). I thought the car drove great before i changed it but now it's a lot better. Mine also gave an underboost code.

Ours is bad too. Rattles bad with the p0299. I have a b8.5 turbo with 20k miles waiting. I am driving with the bad turbo until I can't.

Oh man I would get that fixed ASAP! If it leads to other problems down the road those might not e covered under warranty, don't neglect a car problem, they don't fix themselves! Would you rather be stranded somewhere unexpectedly?

It's a TD1 car. They will not warranty the turbo.

Yes - replaced mine about 4 mouths ago. Car was out of warranty but a TSB was issued for faulty turbos on B8. Check with your dealer to see if your car is covered or not. Mine had 111,000km at that time and I think it was covered up to 115K, so I got lucky.

Replaced mine with a new upgraded k03 for $700. Find a good shop near you and take it there. If the dealer isn't paying for it never take it to audi.

Had mine replaced in November, pressure leak and waste gate rattle. Had it reprogramed back to stock and had no problems. Car is a CPO but the IHI turbo has a 75000 (i believe that was the number) mile warranty and was able to use that instead.

Very interesting. I do believe that my call is already tagged TD1. What did they replace it with. A borg or another IHI

They replaced it with another IHI, i asked for a Borg warner but said since it was a manufacture problem it had to be the same one as an exchange.

The ECS prices are pretty good.

They sell a gasket kit that's a good idea to get too.

ECS is the safe choice but their price is nowhere near as low as the $700 have seen mentioned on this and other threads. Where can I get one for $700?
