This car's been through a lot over the years. The first set of stuff that I did was: AWE track exhaust, Wheels/tires, CF mirrors, RS grille, delete front license plate because nobody likes those, matte wrap (XPEL stealth clear matte), window tint, blacked out window trim.

The guys who did this first round of stuff really did not do a world-class job. They ended up ruining the first set of CF mirror covers I had while installing, and the quality of the matte wrap (not cheap, $9k) left a lot to be desired (sloppy/ragged cuts around the trunk, door jambs, front bumper, and a lot of peeling around the door handles and front bumper after only a couple months). They also sliced the rubber around the window trim all to hell while blacking out the chrome. They also forgot to wrap the bumper behind the front grill, and declined to pay for the stuff they wrecked. Live and learn, I guess.

Wheels in these pics are AG M510 20x10 in "matte black" (even thought they look gloss)

Yeah, the wrap was an XPEL stealth clear matte wrap. It's really thick, hence the extra labor for the install. Also, the material itself is pricey. More info here if you're interested:

Next steps, find a new shop for custom work. Easy enough. Then, install new, non-cracked CF mirror covers, replace the window trims with ones that aren't slashed to hell, add blacked out fog trims:

Car was riding high, so the next order of business was H&R OE springs and Carbon Fiber side skirts:

If I go with this look again in the future, I think blacking out the rings and exhaust tips is in order.

After a few months, the shoddy workmanship on the XPEL wrap started to show. It was peeling in a lot of places that it really should not have been. Normally a wrap like this is supposed to last 3-4 years.

Dropping the car off for wrap removal and a re-wrap in matte white:

    Pickup, a few days later:

Better than new. This wrap was Avery matte white, total cost was $450 for removal of the other wrap, $3k for the re-wrap.

Also around this time: Installed stoptech cross-drilled rotors. Also, the occasional new AG wheel and MPSS tire. California roads ftw:

To date, I've gone through 3 of these AG wheels this way. This is why HREs are a terrible idea in Silicon Valley. 880 and 101 might as well be part of the DAKAR rally, that's how bad they are these days.

With the audi in the shop waiting on a new wheel, forced to drive the other car. Good times.

I've seen a couple installs of GENTEX frameless mirrors on some other makes, and they turned out pretty nicely, so I figured I would give it a whack on an audi. (Gentex makes VAG OEM mirrors, so the quality is OEM+)

At first I tried putting together a bracket adapter, but this was a terrible solution and looked like trash when I put it on, the stock trims didn't really fit at all:

After some trial and error, I was able to disassemble the GENTEX mirror and with a bit of creative dremeling, install a standard Audi ball socket, which allows the mirror to be installed onto the standard Audi windshield bracket-- this is important because it retains the rain sensor, all the stock mounting trims, and the fitment is rock solid, OEM quality:

Installed. So much better than stock. Also got the LED interior lights installed at the same time:

For comparison, the stock S5 mirror looks like this. So much unnecessary plastic:

Ouch! My friend who lives in NJ has gotten a crack on one of his AG 590 wheels once before. Not sure how bad it was all in all. Roads aren't great there either in PA. I have the Vorsteiner VF-103's which I sported and made it all the way through winter on crappy PA roads. They are flow forged so not sure how much better that makes them over the AG cast wheels. But they made it!

Nice build btw, now you have me nervous after reading they cut up your rubber window trim lol. I'm getting my trim wrapped this weds but a local wrap shop. They have done higher end cars, but I will ask him prior for him to assure to me he can do it without destroying he rubber trim. It's one thing I hate about my S5 is that damn aluminum trim. It actually doesn't bother me on white or silver as it's more subtle. But on my deep seal blue pearl it sticks out like a sore thumb, draws the eye way too much.

Yeah I haven't had a cracked wheel yet, just a bunch of non-fixable bent wheels. The potholes we get around here can be a couple feet wide and 6 feet long. One of them got so big recently they had to close the entire road:

Seat trims from neidfaktor. The only thing I don't like about these is the grain of the carbon fiber turned out to be slightly larger than stock.

CF flat-bottom steering wheel with perforated leather, facelifted CF RS5 shifter, RS7 start/stop button, RS5 pedal set, CF dash trim installed:

Installing the updated shifter was pretty easy, did the lighter trick to twist the plastic actuator. Took 2 hours because I was being super careful. The steering wheel was plug and play, took ~45 minutes. The start/stop button was plug and play and took no time at all. Dash trim was a little nerve wracking because the clips are so fragile, but I managed not to break anything.

The wheel and the shifter absolutely change the feel of the interior and drive feel. If you're running a pre-facelift car with some miles on it, replacing these (even with standard-ish leather trim, nothing fancy) should be at the top of your list to give you that "new car" feeling again.

After a long, eventful life, it was finally time to retire the white Avery vinyl wrap. Since the car was going in anyway, it made sense to take care of a few other things, like install the RS5 front bumper, repaint the wheels, and paint the calipers.

The wheels are the exact same wheels (AG M510 20x10) stripped and repainted in "hyper dark silver" paint color lifted from the e39 BMW M5. It looks more or less titanium color in person, which is perfect. I ended up changing out the AG center caps with OEM audi center caps, which match perfectly.

The color mistmatch with the front lip is more prominent than I was expecting, plan for this is to wrap with 3M brushed titanium.

Also went ahead and had the hood wrapped in XPEL clearbra to protect all that nice paint on the hood and bumper.

It was around this time I dropped the car off to have the RS5 active spoiler package installed, along with getting the aluminum mirror caps re-installed, since the CF ones didn't really match anymore.

Still have to dig up the pics for this, I'll add them when I find them, so here's an ice cream break:

New rear RS5 bumper from Xenonz going in. The shop that does paint for me was impressed by the quality of the Xenonz bumper-- the material wasn't as rigid as OEM, but the piece came primed and was ready to paint without additional prep, so that part was pretty painless:

Since the wheels were off, I took a few minutes to tidy up the brake dust shields with a wire brush. Lookin' good as new.

Install had a couple hiccups with the fitment. They had to do remove the inner bumper and trim the bottom edge of the metal for it to fit. Adjustments to the AWE exhaust were also in order, so that also came off.

Finished product, looks perfect. The trim on the lower valence is wrapped in 3M Brushed Titanium (front lip is wrapped to match). Still on the fence about it.

I installed the facelift tails w/progessive indicator kit on my own, did the coding with VAGcom, pretty straightforward. The whole thing took about 50-60 minutes. (I realized after this that facelift tails can be had on ebay for about half of what europrice is charging.)

You can see in this pic that I had the window trims re-wrapped in 3M Brushed Titanium, and it doesn't totally match the stock aluminum mirror covers that I had put back on, they're a much lighter shade.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this. Maybe have the front bumper lip/window trim/rear bumper trim re-wrapped in 3M satin silver, I need to think about it.

Also need to put the rings back on the trunk after having the RS5 decklid/spoiler installed.

Current status, front's completely off so the JHM supercharger can go in:

Should be done next week-ish. You can sort of see the R8 fluid caps (oil cap, coolant cap, steering fluid cap) in this picture. I did a full replacement, much better quality than the cheap plastic ones that come stock! Also replaced the washer fluid cap with billet aluminum.

Nice build! The wheels in silver make the car look so much cleaner.

Question: I love the look of pre-FL RS5's too but with all the work, why didn't you just snag an RS5?

    A few reasons:

    a) The 8.5 facelift hasn't really grown on me (I like the b8 hood lines that run down the front of the car), and I'd feel guilty getting an 8.5 and doing a "reverse facelift" on it.

    b) I'm more comfortable working on this car myself, trying new things, since I don't have to worry about resale value

    c) This car is going to be faster than an RS5 when that supercharger goes in ;)

I am an RS5 owner, and I approve of this message.

Yeah, if they'd sold the B8 RS5 in the states, I'd have one. Unfortunately, we have to wait 25 years to import legally.

Headlights are on the list. List of in-progress items:

Items that have been ordered, but not yet arrived/installed:
Complete custom Carbon Fiber center console replacement and back seat climate vents
Ecodes with morimoto projectors, etched lenses, facelift S8-style DRLs and progressive indicators
    Rieger "Luftseiden" side skirts
    Carbon Fiber ashtray cover
    RS5 door interior door handles
    RS5 door/mirror switches
    MMI 3G+ upgrade
Facelift RS5 Climate control panel, MMI switches
Carbon Fiber manifold cover (engine bay)
    Lamborghini brake calipers w/380mm BBK
    ECS exact fit brake lines
    Redstuff Brake Pads
Restitch back seat armrests with red stitching to match the front
Dynamat in spare tire wheel well to minimize drone @ 2k
Full detail, paint correction & CeramicPro application after I get the exterior sorted
Custom Billet aluminum brake fluid cap

Your S5 is dope! I just added the Xenonz front bumper along with ecodes and morimotto lights. I haven't had a chance to post pics because the car is getting accuair added to it now. I also thought about the rear RS5 bumper and after seeing your car I wish I had ordered it. Are you selling your old diffuser? Pm me with the price if it's available. Again great job on the car. You have great taste.
