Question B9 S4 front brake caliper specs & availability for use on B8's?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So the 2018 S4 is out now. They come standard with 6 piston monobloc front calipers.

Despite searching for info I'm not able to find much on the new brake calipers, except that the new front rotors are 13.8" or 350mm, so at least they went a tad bigger than B8, and they still fit under 18" wheels. Looks like they come in black or red?

With all of the parts sharing that is done I would hope the B9's calipers would bolt right up to the B8's? With all the talk of an all new front suspension geometry though, it may not be possible. Would be great to have a (hopefully) low cost, factory caliper option for the B8 for those of us looking to do track days.

Can someone here get info on them? I'm sure our site sponsors would sell a good number of these if it was possible!

    Appreciate any info in advance!

These calipers with some Girodisk rotors would make for a sweet setup for those of us on 18" wheels. Sponsors, you have one more buyer here.

Excited to see as well! I think there's a great chance of them working with little to no hassle.

On the flip side, they're unlikely to be cheap from the dealer, and probably offer no benefit over the B8 RS4/RS5 calipers (unless they can be used with factory rotors)

Low cost? Brand new car and since there wont be any at wrecking yards only choice is to buy new this will not be cheap or worth it IMO.

I would rather buy the JHM KIT runs a little over 2k i forget the exact cost but i cant imagine the B9 S4 brakes being much cheaper or better.

The advantage I see with the B9 setup is being able to use them with 18" wheels. All Brembo 6 piston caliper kits I'm aware off (including JHM's) don't fit under 18" wheels.

If anybody knows about a Brembo 6 piston caliper kit that fits under 18" wheels, please let me know. I would really appreciate it.

Yea the JhM kit will fit with 18s but needs to be the right offset.

I know they fit on the B6 with 18" Ultrasport wheels but required a 5 or 10mm spacer i forget. Obviously the B6 is much different thsn B8 but still for comparison they should fit.

Who would want to run 18s anyways? Dont s4s come with 19s stock?

Brand new redesign, I'm guessing those parts would be more than a BBK.

Mine came with 18's and I want to keep them. Streets and roads are awful around here. I just broke a 245/45-18 tire the other day 300km away from home. That drive was no fun with the spare tire on the front right.

    And I don't think I can fit a 382mm rotor/caliper inside an 18'er.

It should be 20s for summer 19 for winter.... if a car comes stock with 19s from the factory thats a hint it needs a upgrade. I run 20s and mine is perfectly comfortable. I have stasis 20x9 with 275 30s and it rides excellent!!! Stasis package really sets up the B8 perfectly. And it looks perfect. 20s are yhe way to go for the B8 handling tire wise best traction in summer and any brake option is available. But to each his own.

The car doesnt come stock with 19s. 18s are stock and 19s are an option. IMO, 20s are too big on an S4, just do not like the stretched rubber band look for the tires. You're also in Cali and Nevada, I lived out west and the roads are nothing like many of us have around the rest of the country. They are so much better out there, I would never want 20s in many areas.

But as you said, to each their own.

I wouldn't even run 20s in socal. I also dislike the stretched with massive wheels look and think 19s are the perfect size for s4s.

The stasis setup is very comfortable and rides equally as comfortable as any sport or sline package but handles much better! The problem is not many people know how the stasis models drive because they are so rare but i can assure you I am not one to ever stance my car wheels or coils or alter my car from oem quality. But the stasis package is absolutly perfect and the ride is excellent and very comfortable.

I had my 60 year old mom in the car last week when she was visiting and she said it was very confortable and smooth. However she did not like riding in my BMW coupe on bilstien pss coils with stock 17" wheels and new continental dws tires. Which just goes to show how much the suspension affects the ride just as much as the wheels. Its a combo package that needs to be done right and i cant express enough how perfect the stasis setup is. Its too bad they arent around anymore.

I assume you have stasis's coilovers. They are by far the best coilovers for our platform in terms of performance and comfort. Their coilovers are made by Ohlins, which has an unique design that allows the dampers to absorb all the little bumps on the street and yet allows springs to have pretty high spring constants so the car stays flat when turning. However, they need to be serviced every 2 years and more importantly, stasis went out of business...

I'm excited for this possibility. I was interested in an RS5 brake kit, but foolishly bought 18" snow tires right away for my original Allroad wheels. It's hard to justify 19" winter wheels when I just bought new tires. The Q5 upgrade doesn't do it for me. This could be perfect!

Also, the 382mm JHM kit which utilizes 19z calipers surely wouldn't fit under any 18" wheel, would it? It's the only kit they show for the B8.

Except a JHM kit for a B6 is 350mm with 18z calipers vs. 382mm for the B8 with 19z calipers. Why even mention an 18" wheel fits on the B6 when it's not even the same size rotor or caliper offered on the B8? The link for the B8 kit clearly states 19" minimum wheel diameter...

I'm in on seats....however not sure if they will truly fit. Had thought the B9 was quiet a bit wider, I'd be surprised if the seatsite didn't grow an incheck in the process

I have a feeling the new calipers are not Brembo instead are Akebono just like the 2017 Q7's. Unless I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

You are correct, though it's of no concern to me that they don't bear the Brembo name, and I don't think anyone else should care, either. It's a six-piston monoblock aluminum caliper either way. Not too much to a caliper, and I'm sure Audi set the engineering specs anyway.

My thoughts exactly. Akebono is still a very reputable company. If the kit fits with 18" wheels I'm ok with it.

Also found this interesting. RS5 brakes under the stock 18" wheels with a 10mm spacer. Everything I've read claimed these brakes need a 19" wheel:

Hopefully will test fit the stock 18" Allroad wheels over the RS5 brakes within the next week. Maybe with the lower offset they will clear without a spacer.

In for B9 calipers on my B8.5! Hopefully the pricing is a good intermediate before going to the BBKs...

Yep. S5 gets them in 18" stock as well but with a better offset and more concave look.

As for the OP, is it just me or does anyone else think these new B9 calipers are ugly as shit?

I know the B9's have barely hit showrooms, but has anybody found any other information on the possibility of fitting the B8 platform?

Haven't seen/heard anything. They could easily not be worth it- pending cost, even if they'll work. But if they're anywhere near the cost of Q5 calipers and will fit stock rotors, then of course it would be awesome.

Youre not the only. Not sure why anyone would pick these over say stoptech st60s (which do fit under 18s).
