If I buy the motor what's the worst case scenario here for a cam chain diy done wrong?
Bent valves etc, the usual issues as if it broke or wasn't done correctly.
The odd thing is if he just "got in over his head" why didn't the mechanic finish it
That makes me wonder the same thing as you, did the dude "finish it" and Fck it up and needed a new engine?
Sounds off to me... get it for super cheap since no one knows the state of the insides!
200$ perfect engine anyone? Lol
What engine code is it? If it's a BPG then you would have less (or more?) to worry about since it's forged pistons they would survive a valve mashing whilst the valves wouldn't
Worst case even when it happens while the car is running you'd just need some valves and maybe flatten the marks on the pistons down and you'll be good to go, especially if it happened at "start up"
The thing is even if he got the chain on but was timed wrong I'm almost positive when he cranked it it wouldn't have even started and may not have even cranked past whenever they made contact
Still if you can get it for a cheap price that wouldn't prevent me as long as it's low miles etc
