Weird odor with my B7

Hey guys! I have a weird problem and need some ideas or maybe some of you guys havd that problem.

Recently bought an 07 ibis white Sline wagon that was supposed to ''need an engine''

Bought the car to go with my 07 titanium and the GF 06 B7.

So here it it, car has a really bad smell from the exaust. Not rotten eggs, not gas, not prestone or oil. Smells like burning but no exactly. I never smelled that.

No leakage of oil or coolant

I suspect the turbo needs a rebuild.


Only had a P0420 and P0193

Found a broken wire in the wire loom for the P0193


Cleard the codes, no MIL now
Car runs ok, but smells is still there


Measuring block with vag com passes everything. At -.5 on the lambda.

Anyone had a weird strong smell?

Burning plastic? If it doesn't smell like anything from a car then it's hard to help you out...

Did the car sit? Could be mice in the exhaust, I had that happen before haha. Smoke started eventually coming out of the exhaust one time when I sat in traffic, it was the mouse nest lighting up, after that time it never came back.

It just smelt like "burning" it had no real specific smell and I could never pin point it and only for like two seconds it ever smelled like a campfire or something "on fire" when I would first start the car and it would start warming up, the rest of the time it was just a strong burning smell that came and went until I lit that sucker up and it all burned out

Honestly I cannot describe the smell.

I know I have 2 leaks from the flexpipe and the resonator so I will change the exaust.

Changed the plugs they were black, I have a valve cover leak but it doesn't smell like oil burning.

Guess it will be a try of trial/error.

Will begin to replace the parts I see are shot.

Still, I still do not believe the diagnostic of the Midas garage who told the previous owner motor is shot..

Probably not this but I'll chime in for the heck of it. When I did piggies on mine, initially I was getting like a sulfur like smell and it was very potent. Maybe?...

One of those codes are familiar to me and the 192. Which, for me, was the relay under ECU. The other code you got seems to be a bad Cat. maybe you have a bad cat which is giving you a bad smell. Maybe?

Yes! I'm pretty sure I was getting this code before putting in the o2 spacers after doing piggies. Cats sounds like ur issue

I don't know if it can help, but I noticed a strange indescribable smell when I washed my oil catch can and the hoses. It was somewhat like a light burn smell with a ''backsmell'' of men parfum.
On winter time, the CC is at atmosphere, so the strange smell is back. I made the connexion; at the end, the car is fine.

Check for valve cover / pvc / tubo breather leaks.

yeah, it can be subjective.

I had a ''Strange'' smell on my 96' maxima @WOT, and I never figured out. At the end the car was fine, and it lasted for 4 years before I sell it.

Pretty sure he will find it, did you see his garage ?

lol I pretend that that is just a mechanics garage as my house was supposed to have a double high ceiling in the garage for a lift and the piece of builder didn't do it among the 1,000 other things he fucking ignored that we wanted (and he later won the lawsuit that we put against him by declaring bankruptcy, pos)

So I automatically ignore any pictures that show a lift in someone's garage out of sheer spite and anger ^_^ lol

Ordered new pcv with turbo gaskets. Cutting the downpipe this week end and removing turbo.

Did not see any rodent. Will go on a nice roadtest friday before removing! Doesn't smell like cooking meat lol!

Hmmm you sure it isnt a headgasket? How much smoke is coming from the exhaust?

Compression on all 4 cylinders is 175psi.

That foam is no bueno. Might want to replace the PCV and that foam is usually due to it failing to vent the block properly. Also how come the head is coated in oil?

Already have the new pcv! Will replace it tomorrow morning!

It was leaking lower bolt is stripped.

Oil cap was hard to remove so I went there! One less problem!

So still have alot of oil in the intercooler pipes. Did 300km and removed them twice and its still draining but oil is still at max. Cannot verifiy that its the turbo. Maybe residue from the blown pcv.

Removed the catalytic converter for the p0420 and it's blown! It's like a maracas when you shake it!

Turbo is white inside, when I got the car it was running rough because of the electrical problem with the pump. Not alot of axial and radial shaft play so i'll but another catalytic converter and try it.

Also it's boosting good and no smoke when boosting so it will wait! Don't have alot of time lately.

Also it's leaking coolant on the floor from the o-ring on the hardpipe, so I'll be changing it to.

And new n205 valve since I broke the connector.
