Cabriolet Roof Problem

Hi guys!

I've been trying to figure this out without posting a new thread, but nothing I've done has worked.

We had a guy do some work on our 2004 Audi A4 Cabriolet and since then our convertible top no longer works automatically. I can do it manually - but obviously that's not preferable.

Whenever I pull the switch it says "please close boot" - but the trunk is obviously closed.

I pulled the codes and I got two:
00470 - company comfort databus in Single Wire
000 - -
02024 - Perform adaptation
005 - no or incorrect basic setting/adaptation

I performed the Reset adaptation, which I believe worked (I restarted the car and the code didn't seem to return), but that first code persists. Whenever I pull the switch it's still saying "please close boot"

Any idea what's up?

Regarding the guy who did work on our car:
The back window was falling out and it seems that we got a lot of water that flooded into the car. Our comfort control module was totally corroded. We got a new one and he installed that, dried out the carpeting, and reinstalled it.

Relevance?

The CAN bus for the comfort system is having problems, in failsafe mode. I'd guess that new CCM isn't, or wiring is faulty somewhere.

Though as far as the trunk bring open i'd imagine that's just a problem with the switch in the latch, or the wiring to it. Unless that's on the comfort bus, then...

I would say your single wire mode is directly related to water damage to the wiring in the floor.Did you pull both sides of the carpeting passenger and drivers side???Something tells me you probably have water on the passenger side as well.With the fact that it says boot open.I would say you probably have the wrong module installed.Make sure the part number is the same as the one that came out of the car.

Don't know if its relavent, but my Cabby showed the same "please close boot", check the wiring around the latch, the top will not work if its showing the trunk open. mine became intermittant and it would stop my top in mid process. cleaned the terminal and reconnected, worked ever since

I'm trying to communicate with him (the mechanic) to see if he still has pictures of the old CCM we pulled out. I thought we tried to ensure the same model went back in, but it's possible that a slightly different one was put in. I've got a whole host of issues with the car, which pretty much all started around that time - so it could be that we did put in the wrong CCM, or that the wiring wasn't done right. I believe he pulled out both driver and passenger side before replacing, but again, I'll need to check with him to be sure.

I'm actually not too familiar with what the CAN BUS actually is...does that mean the internal wiring in the CCM? Or the wiring going in to it?

I'm going to try and pull the trunk apart and do what I can to inspect wiring/clean the terminal. Hopefully that'll fix it.

OK!! Update, finally. The mechanic finally got back to me and says that he's pretty sure he installed the correct part and that he definitely took out all the carpeting and dried out both the passenger and driver side.

I used vagcom, though, and it looks like the CCM that was installed may be the wrong number. In my car, I have 8EO 959 433 BB.
A quick internet search indicates that it should work on my 05 A4, B6 body...

When I called Audi, though, they said the correct part number is 8H0 959 433L. I also verified with a realoem search. Edit: Seems that the correct part number can't be had for anything less than $500 - see why he may have gone with a different model.

I have found no problems with wiring in the trunk itself.

Do we think that CCM part # may be behind all these problems? I was doing some more research on all the different error codes I have, and they pretty much all seem to come back to electrics and ross tech indicates checking wiring.

I think my next step will be pulling the carpet up and looking at the CCM and the wiring connected to it. If that's not corroded though...

Alright, managed to pull the CCM out today and have a look at it. None of the wires seem corroded, however the connectors that plug into the CCM itself definitely had some corrosion. I went at it for a bit with a wire brush and cleaned them up before putting everything back in and reattaching the battery (was considering messing with airbag too, but ran out of time)

I drove the car home and then later tonight hooked up VagCom and got a new scan. There are defintely way fewer fault codes than there used to be - specifically reduction(s) or elimination of fault codes in addresses 36,37,46,56,63, and 73. There's a new one in address 3, possibly unrelated? (EDIT: Definitely seems related) The roof code, though, is still there. I'll post the full scan beneath.

Again, when I had it out I verified that the 8EO 959 433 BB CCM is installed in my car. The 8E is the chassis for an A4/B6 of my year - but not the cabriolet (which is what I have). I'm leaning more towards thinking that the incorrect CCM is responsible for the roof not working. But would it explain all the other fault codes?

Gin+, you're absolutely right - I didn't even realize that. I'm afraid my problems are rooted in having the wrong CCM installed...

Ok, so I swapped out the CCM for the correct model (as verified with the dealership) - still pulling up a bunch of codes. Despite that, the roof now works. I love that it works, the original problem is fixed - but now I'm wondering what the heck is throwing all these codes.

Most of them seem to indicate its with wiring - which I cleaned off the contacts and replaced the CCM, so I was hoping that would take care of it.
