FJC Radiator Coolant Vacuum Refill Kit*

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone have experience with one of these? Put in my AMS Alpha Heat Exchanger last night, but when I do the vacuum test I appear to have a slow leak somewhere since the vacuum won't hold and very very slowly returns to atmospheric pressure. Is there an easy way to test out different areas of the coolant system with this device (like soapy water etc...) or should I just fill it with coolant and see if I can find a drip anywhere? I guess it's possible it was there before the install also since my coolant level was slightly below minimum but I haven't found any evidence of a leak prior to this. TIA

Could be an intercooler leak within supercharger or you still have air in the system.

Thank you. I did think of an intercooler leak since I've read about it in a couple threads, how would I test that specifically though? Otherwise I haven't refilled the system with coolant yet and I've done the vacuum test a couple times so air us getting in somewhere just don't know where.

Does it have drain or bleeder screws? If so, put some teflon tape on them. Also, make sure you have good clamps, i had a very minor leak develop from using a worm gear clamp that was not holding tight.

Might have found the culprit, amazing what a fresher set of eyes (read: 2 hours sleep) will do for you lol. Must have damaged it when I switching out the hard pipes. Now need to find a part number and hope Audi has it in stock.

It is just basic coolant tubing. I cannot remember the specs but take that piece to an auto-parts store and they will go cut you off some new tubing for a few bucks.

FWIW, I replaced almost all my factory tubing when I installed my HE as I was not comfortable reusing the stock tubes after cutting off the clamps.

You could always take the hose piece to your local hardware or auto store and get a section of radiator hose the same spec for much cheaper more than likely, not that it would be an expensive part.

Yeah, sometimes I'm weird about OEM, sometimes not so much. For whatever reason I wanna use OEM for this, I guess if it didn't match the other one my OCD would be offended everytime i see itlol. It's $11 at the local Audi stealership... hopefully that was the issue. We'll find out soon enough i guess. Appreciate the help fellas

If you meaning hose to hard pipe ->supercharger. Part number is left 06E121545 and right 06E121546 . Audi OEM hoses are offen fairly cheap. I have changed these hoses always, if need to open them.

    Hello,

Happy that you had your issue sorted out !

Question about this vacuum tool : Can it only bleed air without the entire filling procedure. That's to say: can we use it just to take out more air after a refill/manual bleed procedure ?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best

I'm pretty sure it's only empty and refill. I mistakenly sucked in some air during the 1st round, rookie mistake, and following the directions in the kit had me re-bleed the system to empty and recreate the vacuum to refill. So no I don't think it has the ability to suck out air still in the system while it's full but maybe someone with more experience using these can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.
