Do I need TPMS sensors for aftermarket 20'' wheels?

I understand there are two types of TPMS...depending if you drive an older or newer S5. Can someone please explain this?

Because I have an '08 S5. I ride stock 19" wheels with snow tires in the winter. I assume there is sensor inside each wheel?

I'm getting a new set of 20" BBS wheels and tires for summer. If my stock wheels do have a sensor inside each wheel, I don't want to switch them over every year. So do I need to order a second set of TPMS sensors from TireRack for my aftermarket wheels?

I've heard you get an error if TPMS is not installed. I don't have VAG-COM to disable the error.

Not sure if B8 is/isn't different from B8.5, but my 13 S5 calculates tire pressure using the ABS and not an additional sensor so no issues swapping wheels freely, where my 14 328i uses standalone TPMS and throws a warning when they are not installed per wheel. Needless to say I prefer the Audi way for ease and economy.

08-09 have a physical sensor on each wheel. I went without sensors on my aftermarket wheels, and yes it throws a light on the dash. Also, using VAG to disable is extremely intensive I've heard.

Damn. I was hoping I wouldn't need them. A set of 315MHz tire pressure sensors it is then.

You don't need them. I don't run them. I use the VAG com (ask someone local on the Forum to help you)to code it out, then you pull the fuse. Or vice versa. The fuse is key. I haven't had a code in 2 years.

I don't run sensors in the my winter wheels. I remove the fuse in the rear panel, IIRC it is #2 and then you code out (uncheck) TPS in central Convenience module in Vag-Com. Its very simple and saves you a few hundred bucks.

    Guys,
My winter setup is 18 inch. Once I'll come back to summer set with 19inch do I need to adjust something for TPMS system? Will it correct automatically ?

I don't have any dash lights right now and I didn't have with summer set as well. This is the first year when I own this car and I gave my car to install the winter set before winter. I think they did some adjustments to make TPMS system works properly on 18 inch rims.

You have a '13 so the tire pressure is possibly 'on board' or abs based (i.e. it senses if a tire is rotating at a different speed then the rest on a set). Going from an 18" to 19" won't set off any lights.
