is this just a generic message telling me to replace the battery in my key fob?

Just plug the key into the key hole while driving and u'll be set. Mine did that a while ago, but recently I got the replace battery message instead.

I've never placed my key anywhere in the vehicle other than my pocket, and never got a recharge notice.
I did get the replace battery message last week. They use a standard 2032 battery, so it was a piece of cake.
So, you're saying that the slot in the dash will charge the fob??? I did not know that.

I must say though, I do appreciate the warning.
It would suck if it just went completely dead.
    Surprise!

The battery in the key does not recharge by putting it in the ignition. The battery is a standard 2032 button battery. I just replaced mine not too long ago. Pretty easy to do. Found a youtube video that explained how to. But the battery DOES NOT recharge by putting it into the ignition slot.

goblues38, are you and cheewy16 sure you saw it say "recharge" and if so, were you on your way home from the bar?

I find it hard to believe the fob and ignition slot have what would amount to as wireless charing. Also, the standard CR2032 batteries are not rechargeable (but you could use a LIR2032 if you had a way to recharge them). If your fob battery is dead, you need to place it in the slot so the car can read it, as opposed to the fob emitting a single to the car.

I bet the cluster says 'recharge' as a warning that the signal is weak, and then, says 'replace' when the car is not receiving any signal from the fob. Theoretically, if you had a LIR2032, you could pull it and recharge it though.

FWIW -- The CR2032 on your computer's motherboard gets recharged.

Mine only said replace, and it did so for a week before I finally got around to changing it, but it worked fine during that week.
