Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

What brand of oil do you recommend for 3.0T?

I know Audi's dish of Castrol, but I've heard stories about the quality of this oil,

    Thanks for your feedback,

According to your car's owners manual, any oil that meet or exceed the VW 502 oil standard is fine. Here is the Audi Technical Bulletin of Approved Oils and Oil Quality Standards for reference.

I have used Castrol in both my VW's and my '16 Audi S5. No issues or problems otherwise Audi will not specify it as their preferred oil brand. Other owners are biased towards certain oil brands. That's their choice. Again, as long as it meets the VW 502 standards, it is OK.
Current: 2016 S5 in Sepang Blue with Technik Package.

Mobil and Liqui Moly are the best. It says "Castrol" on the cap because Castrol pays Audi millions $$$ to have it there. Not knocking Castrol, just saying... Mobil and Liqui Moly are the best.

Curious...what do you LOVE about this oil? There would be absolutely no performance difference from one brand to another. Whats the difference that makes you love it?

Correct, oil is not really a performance item, it's about engine protection and reliability. I've noticed that my engine idles smoother, it's also a great company with top marks and awards, and it was designed and tested for turbocharged engines.

Interesting. Same for Castrol. Oil does not affect idle.

Agree to disagree I guess. I noticed quite the change on my car with the idle, not nearly as much ticking as before with Castrol. The only thing that was different was the oil so I'm going off that I guess. I'm obviously not a chemical engineer, but Liqui Moly is one of the most used and best rated oils in Germany that and the less ticking from my engine at idle is enough for me to run it. German car = German oil logic. Haha.

Sorta related - there is a tsb out since Jan for the oil level sensor.

Came on during a road trip and had to find store that had Castrol 5w40. Filled it and next day, 100 miles into heading home and light comes on again.

To the dealer to use their fancy measuring tool. Oil level good, sensor bad. Come back when we have the part...

Venting that they didn't include a real dipstick. Btw, need part number so I can get one. Only way to check is MMI, which does no good if sensor is broke.

    Thanks,

I stick with OEM, they are cheap and work great. But I wouldn't foresee any issues with an aftermarket one either.

    For update this thread:

I have used FUCHS and i confirm is a very good oil.

With Castrol i need to refil with more one 1L bootle.
With FUCHS i have used only one 1L bootle and i'm stay at full oil signal.

I want to try LIQUI MOLY this time, just to compare....

    :)

I carefully selected whatever brand the dealer puts in when they change my oil.

Schaeffer's is actually the oldest oil/ lubricant company in the US....

    http://www.schaefferoil.com/

It's one of the very few oils out there that has a High Temp/High Shear (HTHS) Viscosity of 4.05 and it has moly in it. but I'm super geeky about my oil....

    Mobil 1 0W-40 euro has a HTHS of 3.6.
