    Best ignition coils?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was driving today and decided to have some fun. After a few hard pulls the engine light started blinking and that shudder I know all too well. I had a bad coil. I limped to the closest auto zone and got a spare coil. After swapping coils, I verified the issue was the coil and did a quick swap. I've had so much issues with coils and plugs I don't dare get on the gas with a generic coil. What are some of the better quality coils? Is it recommended I change them all at once? Is there a downside to not changing them all at the same time? I've ruined a many new coils in the past. What can cause a brand new coil to go bad?

Are about as good as it gets unless, you spring for Okada's/Plasma Direct.

And my preference is to change them as a group. Just like I do for plugs. Also what plugs are you using.

Honestly I dunno the brands as I replaced them a while ago. They are Napa brand. Does any of the more techy fellows here know how a new coil can go bad? Could replacing individual coils cause this?

I was having issues as well, I then updated them to the most revised version (chrome stem) and I've had no issues. Personally I wouldn't cheap out on coils/plugs with these cars, especially with all the oil they like to burn I can imagine cheaper ones will foul a lot quicker.

    Just my experience!

Doubtful. I know the 1.8t coils are a good 3/4" shorter. I think the 3.0 is the same way.

Get red ones y0. They are much better and cooler.

Honesty the red ones work very well. I don't understand why you would buy black ones for more money....aka if you go to the dealer.

what i did was buy the duralast coils from autozone ran them on my last b7 for 50k miles and then 2 went out went in there swapped them out and on my way becasue lifetime replacement. that way i don't spend money on coils back and forth but that's what i do. just a thought not really recommending it lol.

Original coils rolled off the assembly line since July 2007 (2008 car). Currently at 65K and just as good as new. I'd say if you want peace of mind, stick with the four-ring logo brand.

Why not just buy OEM coil packs? I was shocked but the OEM coil packs were 28$ ea. I replaced all four and my spark plugs when I bought my Audi 3 years ago. Mines an 07. Aside from oil changes all I've done is that, and new tires and alignment. This has actually been the cheapest car I've owned. I guess I replaced the accessory belt because it was easy and 18$.

i researched this when my coils kept failing after 6 months out of the blue. the okadas are top of the line followed by the R8 coil packs.

while you are at it, swap out the plugs for the bosch copper tri-electrode. the plugs are so easy to change so swap the plugs out every oil change. add some injector cleaner to your gas tank before the next fill up then let your car idle out for an hour or so at normal temperature. this worked for me to clean out some of the carbon buildup in the intake ports and valves. the car ran stronger, louder and it didn't have any cold start misfires any longer. i use the R8 coils, still in service, and they are outlasting the OEM packs and still going strong. when the engine is at normal temp and still using the injector cleaner, drive the car with some heavy foot to help clean out the gunk and use the engine as a brake down hills to help vacuum out the gunk.
