    Repair hail damage or not?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We had a pretty violent storm come through Baltimore last weekend and my car got pelted with hail. It was bad enough to break a skylight in my house and I've now noticed probably ~20 small dings on my hood/roof/trunk. It's not enough to bother me (a lot, at least), but any thought on whether I should cough up my deductible ($500) to get it them fixed (for resale value), or is it not worth it. My car is in pretty nice shape and low mileage, so just trying to poll if it's worth it or not. Thx

Our truck got hit a few years ago I was amazed at how they were able to fix it without damaging the paint.

Weird! I'm in Glen Burnie and saw nothing of the sort! I do recall lots of lightning and it just down-pouring, but no hail.

If you're expecting to get the damaged panels resprayed in order to restore resale value you're going to have a bad time.

I personally would get an estimate from a paintless dent removal service as they will obviously leave the factory paint intact, and could cost much less than your $500 deductible.

THIS! BTW, that would bother the shit out of me until I got it fixed. Not to mention about resale or how much you will get dinged on a trade in. Vote to ban if you don't get it fixed!

This is the biggest ding. I didn't realize how hard it was to photograph a reflective surface. The rest about about half the size.

I recounted and there's only 10 or so. The more I look at it, the more annoyed I become...

Agreed. Repainted panels will negatively affect resale if the buyer knows about it.

on panels like that with no rear access, they just try to do a glue tab, and usually it makes it better , but not perfect.

I was in Baltimore when it happened walking to the parking garage to get my car out. Luckily I got pelted and not my car. Did kinda hurt though. Worth the bruises imo though haha. My advice is just fix them. Hit up PDR in the hunt valley area.

Pdr is worth it, i had over 300 dents on a previous car I owned from hail and the pdr guy got everyone of them out, looked new again. Ask around for the best guy, don't go with the first one you call. Experience goes a long way in this field.

Get it repaired, I've seen cars with over a hundred of those come out looking like new. $500 is nothing, people here spend that much for CAI that almost no one will ever see and provides very little .

Everyone, including yourself, will see this every time you get in the car if you don't repir

My 2000 BMW. Got Hail damage, I took it to my client who owns a dent less shop. All of the dents where gone in less than one hour, except one in the roof which would have required taking down the headliner. The others were in the hood & trunck. You would never know there was damage !

Definitely get PDR done. I am jealous, I know its disgusting but I've been praying for a hail storm so I can replace the chrome belting around my windows and finally get a wrap done....but seriously, go with a PDR shop and you'll be glad you did.

^^ Agreed. If you find a guy who travels the country in a 5th wheel just to chase storms and do PDR, he's the guy to go with. I worked with a few guys who did it, and they were brilliantly skilled. Watching their skill was flabbergasting. Amazing stuff.

We get a lot of big hail storms where I live and the insurance company will come in look at it and cut checks unless they total it out. It would definitely be worth getting an estimate and then deciding whether or not to go to insurance. Not fixing it will kill your resale value.

Not sure if you'd have to pay your deductible in this case but I'd go through insurance. Typically removing 1 dent for me in the past has cost about $275 so I don't see this costing less than your deductible.

Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

With multiple dents, it will likely cost more than his comprehensive deductible unless it is really high.
