    budget coilover experience needed.

So it's time to make a few upgrades. First, I ha e cracked bushings confirmed by dealer. Second, hit a nasty hole on the road because the dumb m$:&27&;!:$ ahead of me didn't care and smashed right into it as well. Didn't bother to move to suggest a road hazard. Anyways, now I've got s constant vibration. Could be bent rim but hope not - flow forged wheels. Maybe bent control arms? Who knows. Lastly, tires are starting to rub fender on deep dips at high speed.

Using this as excuse to upgrades the upper control arms I have. Get all new lower arms. New bolts all around.

Current suspension is all bolt on typical upgrades but H&R OE springs with factory shocks. Can't spend 2k on bilstein coils so, do I go budget coilovers OR keep springs and go with bilstein shocks? Looking for experience from those with the budget coils (<$1k). Live in Houston TX now so no snow or salt. Just high humidity and water. Looking for 50k miles+ out of whatever I go with. No track use. Just performance on streets.

I'd suggest Bilstein b12 pro kit instead of oe springs + Bilstein shocks.
At the same time, I've heard st x performance coilovers are as good as kw v1's. Just a different material. If your location doesn't have salt water, st x might be as well a good choice.
Personally I'll go for Bilstein since I don't really need height adjustability and for their monotube design.

I can second the ST's. Ride is very good and quality seems up to par. I do hear a creak every now and then, but not enough to annoy me.

Anyone have any experience on the B12 kit vs coilovers? If you get non adjustable coilovers, what's the difference between them and the B12?

Vogland hands down. Or step up a bit and get h&r street.

If you want higher spring rates in rear get the vogland avant coilover. B12 is good too but I like to adjust to my desired height

No question. H&R streets. Had them on my '13 and loved them! Not too firm and not too soft. I debated the vogland, STs and the others that are < $1k but at the end of the day I read too many "I wish I spent more $ on more reputable coilovers" that I waited to find a killer deal on a used H&R setup and it was perfect.

unless you spend $2k+ on a set of nice coil overs, the bilstein b12 kit is the best option.

b12 are eibach springs + a matched set of bilstein b8 sport dampeners. i bought my set from Ajusa.com for $600 shipped. it was cheaper than buying the 4 shocks separately.

ST's are way too cheap for my liking and living in a cold weather climate i worry about rust and corrosion on the shock body. i also feel like i would forever be fiddling with the ride height.

I had ST coilovers in my S5 and loved them. Very comfortable for a daily with some spirited driving. Never tracked the car so I don't know how well they'd do if your into that.

Also, I'm curious as to why you called the person in front of you a "dumb m$:&27&;!:$" for not moving around the pothole to alert you of a road hazard, when you didn't move around the pothole yourself to alert the person behind you. Im thinking this is 100% your fault and you have no business blaming the guy driving in front of you.

I definitely recommend the Vogtland CO's on a budget. Like mentioned above I would get the avant springs as the rear spring rates are higher. The sedan springs are a little soft in the rear.

H&R Street VS Vogland avants? which would you choose? i think the spring rates are rather similar. i know the vogland are higher front 740? 440rear? and h&r are 450/450 if i remember right.

Not really blaming fault on anyone since it was impossible to avoid. But I always avoid any road hazards all the time. This just shows the person in front is in the 99% majority of the world that doesn't care. They ran through anything and then ask themselves why they get car problems while in the shop. End rant but the person in front is still a moron period.

There are a group of coil overs that comes from the same factory in Taiwan. They just change the color of the struts/springs to make it "your brand". They are not good, and its all the same. Anything under $800, I would assume its coming from that Taiwanese factory.

Not sure if what you said is true, but major venders here don't carry many coilovers under $800, except for the b12 pro kit, which doesn't belong to coilovers, technically.

I can't personally speak for the H&R Streets but I have the Vogtland sedan CO's and they have been great. Vogtland advertises .75" to 1.8" drop and I can tell you they can lower more than that. My car sits about 25.75" from GTF and the CO's still have more than half of the threads exposed for lowering.

I've heard (from a vendor) that the biggest complaint with the b12 is the ride is too harsh? Can anyone confirm? From my reading on here, most people say they love the way the car feels after going with them.

i think they are the same height wise. eibach is a progressive rate spring making it ideal for a DD car.
here is a good thread on the b12 kit, h&r oe springs with bilsteins, etc

OP, if I'm not mistaken, ST is an "off-brand" of KW. Might be worth a look
