3.0T supercharger pulley swap DIY without service position.

This is how I did mine, what I did to my car worked for me. I am some guy on the internet and you can trust that I won't lie to you or break your car. If you are not as lucky as me then don't try it. It will not be my fault if you break your car.

Remove the beauty covers and look at the ugliness.

    Find all your tools required.

Step 1 is place new super low ratio pulley into oven at 400 on convection. You have to give it time to heat up.

    Step 2
    Remove supercharger belt
16mm long reach open wrench. Push clockwise.
Finagle the belt around the pulleys.

    Step 3
Loosen supercharger bolts 6x13mm on top of s/c
    Remove air inlet tube
Remove the small trim plates on side of s/c T25 torx head
Move the vacuum line off the right side of engine
Disconnect the supercharger coolant lines and make a small mess it's gonna go on the floor rags won't soak up everything. But helps.

    Make sure supercharger is clear

    Step 4
Pull up on supercharger and try to support it
I carefully placed two hammers under the supercharger without damaging the rubber intake gaskets

    Step 5
Once you have the supercharger supported with enough clearance install the puller. With plenty of lube.

I used an battery impact gun and took like 15 seconds.

Install new belt around bottom pulleys
    Step 6
Check the temp of your pulley. Should be about 375-400° using a infrared thermometer. Or let it cook for 30-45 mins

Using your ove glove grab the pulley and place it on the naked shaft.

    Step 7
    Start reassembly.
Carefully set supercharger back down and make sure it's fully seated.
Tighten the supercharger down in a cross pattern and torque to 20nm

    Install intake tube
    Side trim covers.
    Reattach coolant lines.
    Double check everything
Make sure it took long enough for the pulley to cool to the touch

Reinstall belt. 16mm wrench clockwise as far as you can reach.
Refill coolant with distilled water and G12+
    Double check again.
    And clean up.

    Any

    And of course enable
It does nothing but looks cool. Cannot actually engage it.

I have been meaning to remove it since you can not enable it. It is only for R8 iirc, but you can add race, off-road,andr efficiency mode. VCDS adaptation i found it in deep web of B8 vcds mods

Thank you for posting this... very timely, ive been putting off my pulley swap since I didn't want to remove the front end in the middle of winter... and it looks like you were taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather in Massachusetts!

3.0T supercharger pulley swap DIY without service position.

I reused the oem gaskets for the s/c. They are rubber flexible and looked like they were in good condition.

Basically the only thing holding the s/c back was the wiring for the throttle body and the vacuum lines.

I got the torque specs from the diy for thermostat replacement.

Proper torque in a criss-cross bolting sequence helps assure that it is fully seated.

As you can see the supercharger surface is flat and no gasket sealer is present.

I'll pull off the s/c fully to change the oil this summer. 5 years and 60k is not too long. Eaton blowers oil changes are usually good for 80k miles.

Thanks for sharing your method. Just did mine and followed your guide. Had a bit of trouble finding something to prop it up with, but used the top parts of my jackstands. I took longer, but got it completed and running well.

    Thanks!

I did this two weeks ago. CTS pulley and United Stage 1/2 software. UM I did back in Jan. I just did not want to pull the front end off. Took maybe hour half and maybe only 50 min of actual work. I just pulled the whole supercharger off. My torch was at the shop but the heat gun worked perfect for a 3 jaw puller.

How long did you have to heat it with the heat gun?

I used a map pro (tall yellow bottle, $12 @ lowes) torch to heat mine.
Took about 2-3 minutes in 24F weather

If I prop it up and then do all the steps for pulley only, when it comes to the coolant you say to fill it but how about bleeding it?
