I installed Capristo valved exhaust recently, along with piggies. Can only say WOW now. Still calm in a menacing way with valves closed, but it's Satan's own trumpet chorus with valves open under load, without ever falling into that brittle "wrraaappp" at high revs like some exhausts do. No drone, just Jekyll or Hyde at the push of a button.
Just installed the Forza Componenti exhaust valve bypass controller a few minutes ago and went for a test run, and it's now the perfect setup (for me); wake the dead or let the baby sleep, any rpm, any gear.
It really sounds like a DTM monster screaming around city streets now. Without restraint, the neighbours might not appreciate the daily chorus...

HMS: From the clips i've heard, sounds brutal! Almost pulled the trigger before the Capristo
JC Weldfab: Lots of people in the UK run this and also sound quite aggressive. 2.75" cat-back a plus
Scorpion: Sounds pretty killer and has some nice oval tips.

Just a few of the 'rarer' exhausts to look into.

I'm running a bit of an improvised solution. I have piggie downpipes but with the pre-cats completely cut out. For the cat-back I have a Milltek which came resonated with valves and I removed the middle resonators.

As you have already figured out, a lot of exhaust make different notes. This also depends on the driver, engine load and exhaust temp. I can show you 3 videos of the same exhaust under different circumstances and it always sounds different.

I run Tubi with a custom mid pipe without resonator which I love

I also know of a car that ran GMG exhaust with the same custom mid pipe and it sounded great too.

I like my gmg on the rs4…also really liked my magna flow on s4 avant..It had the perfect growl and sound with no drone.. FWIW my almost 70 year old mom has had to borrow the s4 and rs4 and never complained about the sound being obnoxious. In fact she really liked both… i always get a kick how she get's excited when her subaru's in shop and drives a third pedal again

I have 2.75 down pipes with high flow cats to a custom x mid pipe bottled down to scorpion mufflers. Loud when valves are opened up and quiet when closed.

Not exactly "lesser known" But I LOVE my Tubi Rumore. recordings do not do it justice. No valves, but weirdly they arent really needed, quiet when loafing around but when you bury the gas pedal it sound like the earth is ripping apart. Oh, and the off throttle pops and crackles are hilarious.

A friend once measured 119,8 db directly behind my tail-pipe at rev-limit. Valves open. It's good that our cars have great sound insulation in the cabin.

Really great input. Hope it helps people when coming to the same situation as myself, as an exhaust kinda seems like a one time buy for the commoners... think im gonna go for an AWE. Sounds nice and deep; throaty...

@faisal J - does that remote work on all exhausts?

Yep it works with any aftermarket valved system. The box just plugs into the vacuum solenoid, and you're all set.

I've been thinking about getting the Magnaflow catcack, just curious how much a difference in sound/volume you get from running the down pipes as well?

First choice for me would be the Capristo but the price especially being in Canada seems crazy to me.

It definitely made it alot throatier and a deeper sound. Surprisingly quiet in the cabin but outside I hear the xtra pops and crackles it makes. The downpipes came uninstalled when i bought the car I just wasnt sure whether to go with a 2.75 instead but Im happy with it. I just couldnt find any sound clips of anyone running the full magnaflow setup. I will have to get someone to drive while Im filming outside I havnt heard yet but Ive been told it screams.

I just had the Capristo installed on my RS4, and I now take the long way to get anywhere if it involves driving under a bridge or through a tunnel. If you are ever in the Kitchener area you're more than welcome to stop by for a listen.
