I generally would... UNLESS its a DSG, more so if its not a B8.5. That is the ONLY thing i see being the back breaker and needing or wanting a warranty with these, which stinks because its a great trans "sometimes" plagued by unfortunate problems . I don't generally like warranties and have had them in the past and really never used them before they ran out, but that is just me in my case of luck. The thermostat doesn't bother me with these, most would be already fixed by the factory warranty if someone bought it pre owned.
I like the idea of the rainy day fund, and if you don't use it more you win. But that mechatronic unit might make me almost always nervous.
I am currently in a B8 S5, looking to add a B8.5 S4 to the arsenal soon, in a DSG. I looked at alot of CPO cars and most around me are not spec'd to my liking color/interior and mostly premium plus versions. What i think i will do is buy a 2013, or 2014 still just barley under the factory warranty. And add the fidelity power train or platinum warranty to cover any DSG woes. Unless i can come across a CPO in my price range which atm is like 35k-ish . I could alos wait for the B9's to hit show room floors, so the B8.5's possibly fall a bit, which could be a smart move.
