    Air Ride Trunk Setups

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Interested in seeing people's trunks and how they have their air ride management setup/plumbed. Specifically those who've kept their trunks functional for both storage and a spare tire, and being able to access the fuel pump. False floor seems to be the best option so far but I want to see how others have done it so I have a better idea of what I want to do.

    Thanks!

False floor with split top (half way to rear) so I can remove the front half and store stuff under there on top of the spare.

Compressor and manifold are located directly under the tank and the lines run to bulkhead fittings to go through the bottom of the trunk floor. I'd like to re-do it soon, but it's been working out pretty well for storing some basic tools under there with the spare and keeping the appearance clean.

Everything pulls out, but it's kind of a pain to get to the fuel pump. Hopefully something you're not doing too often...

A lot of people hang the tank off the rear deck.

Hopefully, but just in case I want to have a reasonable amount of access to it. How high off the trunk floor is your false floor?

Thats the initial idea thus far... but hanging it from the rear deck AND doing a false floor to hide the compressors/manifold seems like it'd kill most of the functionality of the trunk when folding the seats down. It's been suggesting hiding them in the side pockets but not sure if there's enough room for that.

6" which is more than enough. Could probably get away with 4"

Sorry in advance for my ignorance on the subject, as I don't know much about air set ups, but what if you mounted the tank to the top of the deck (where the speakers sit) in the trunk. I've never really looked so I don't know for sure. I was just thinking that if it would actually work, it would be pretty functional because you would still have your floor in your trunk. You just wouldn't be able to stack too high. You can always get lines routed to make it work.

I mounted everything behind the tank so it was out of sight. I also ran dual compressors but cant seem to find a picture of that setup.

Could try hiding the compressor in pocket on the left side of the trunk. Possibly the manifold as well if there is enough space.

Noob here as well. What system are you guys using? Specific to the b8. Is it something that needs a ton of modification or are there kits?

The struts/bags are chassis specific but the tanks, compressor, and management are all universal. There's tons of different setups for that. Airlift is the only company to make air suspension for the b5 chassis so generally their management is pretty popular because you can get it in a kit. Generally management systems run off of pressure in the bags. Meaning height is adjusted by adding or removing psi. Airlift did just release a height and pressure based management which looks really interesting. My biggest complaint with air suspension in general is the lack of consistency with a pressure only system. 3H does take care of that.

Air gets a bad rap because most use it for astetic purposes only. If it's properly dialed in it can (dare I say) offer a best of all worlds scenario.

I made myself a false floor setup, I still have room for a spare wheel and more.

Here's a work in progress photo since I don't have any when it was finished.. :(
