DIY - Charcoal Canister / Leak Detection Pump - Evap CEL Codes / Gas pump click issue

This is a DIY for the Charcoal Canister and Leak Detection Pump on a B8 Audi A4. I had a CEL code P0455 for an evap leak (you may have a different code for the same issue P0456) and also noticed when filling up gas, the pump would click as if the tank was full although it wasn't (pressure build up). Other than that, the car drove and ran completely fine. I couldn't find the location of this pump for a B8 A4 online (no forum posts for this model), or by looking under the car at first, so here you go! Very easy replacement.

    1. Tools needed

    • T25 Torx
    • 8mm, 1/2 inch sockets, ratchet, and an extension
    • Pliers
    • flat head
    • floor jack

    2. Location - The pump is located in front of the back tire on the drivers side under a plastic cover.

    3. Steps!
    • Jack up the car from the rear
    • Remove the plastic cover - 2 screws using T25 torx and 1 8mm bolt.

    • Remove all hoses from the charcoal cansiter/leak detection pump. There are 5 or 6 and 1 wire clip. Most are very easy to remove or unclip. 1 requires pliers, all others can be unclipped or removed by pulling directly off w/care. There is 1 hose that you push in the clip/pull simultaneously the hose (white tip).
    • Remove 3 bolts that secure the canister - 1/2 inch socket w/extension.
    • The entire canister and pump should come directly out.

    • Putting the new one in is just as easy - Start by securing the pump with the 3 1/2 bolts and then reconnecting all hoses along w/1 wire connection.

Hey guys. Bought a salvage B8.5 missing the vapor canister. Got a replacement but I think I’m missing two connections. One being electrical and the other some kind of tube. Does anyone know where these lead and plug into? Part numbers maybe? Thanks.
